Raced a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8...DAMN FAST...Your thoughts!!
I raced a Jeep Cherokee STR8 the other day, twice off a light and that thing hauled ***. He out launched me both times but I was inching on him, but barely, Id say for the most part we where neck and neck. I did have a 130lb a passenger. Im not sure the year, the SUV had center exhaust tips if that means anything. It was pretty loud with the exhaust.
I have an 07 E63 bones stock, for sure I thought I would pull on him.
Are these SRT8 Jeeps mid 12's SUVS or was this guys Jeep modded?
Anyone else race the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8?

Gauging the performance is tough by what you are saying. They aren't that fast (relatively speaking) to keep up if it was stock or lowly modded like an intake and exhaust because they run between 100-110mph in the 1/4 which the E63 should do better than (more around 115-118) but it would have pulled away if it was turboed which they have them running all the way in to the 8s on turbo setups. The basic entry level popular kit makes them run real low 11s in mid 120s on pump gas or high 10s at 130ish on race gas tune and a little more boost on stock engine/transmission setup.
If you were only inching on him after he out launched you (not surprised since they are all wheel drive) and you were neck and neck I would say it was a supercharged one since they run between 114-120mph trap speeds (same as an E63) with something like a vortec supercharger.

Yea I agree with one. That Jeep launched HARD!!! I was very impressed by it.
I saw online the Hennessy STR8 Supercharged runs mid 12's. My 07 E63 puts down 420rwhp/380rwtq so its no slouch and running good. That jeep was impressive. After google searching im pretty certain that the SRT8 was highly modded. If not, my E63 has issues.
On a side note.....Urbamworm VERY nice white E55!!

Your first mistake was looking at piece of **** Hennessey, it is crazy how time and time again people reference Hennessey if he/that company modifies the vehicle being talked about. He is a way overpriced under delivering performance shop for what you pay for.
A supercharged Jeep running mid 12s is a sad excuse of a fairly highly modified Jeep. They run in the 12s with minor things done to them and even stock at around 105mph.

From what I am gathering, my stock E63 hanging with a modified (possibly supercharged) SRT8 Grand Cherokee is not so bad and did good. I thought that there was something wrong with my car.
In regards to Hennessey, I only threw them in there because I saw them with the times first on the net. Im not a fan of Hennessey at all.

Keep in mind with racing an AWD vehicle. They will run on the street what they run on the track.
NON AWD cars will vary because the track prep could be good and you can get a decent hook but the "track prep" on the street is never good, so you can never hook. If you spin or have to ease it off the line, you could easily lose .5 seconds. So you low 12 second car is now a mid 12 second car.
Those jeeps will run low 13's bone stock.

Being a former srt8 Jeep owner I will say they launch hard. However, this summer I ran a new one from a roll then off the light and beat it handily both times. I did spin and had to catch him off the light, but I blew by him pretty hard. I only have a supercharger pulley and a tune.

Here at elevation, a stock SRT8 Grand Cherokee and an E550 are roughly equal... they have a faster 0-60 time even compared to 4-Matics but run about the same quarter mile. That being said, there aren't many stock SRT8s around here, most people run a supercharger in the area and they are able to get into the 12s and even deep into the 11s when they are highly modified, still a mile above sea level. In fact, the Douglas County Sheriff's department now has a twin-turbo setup that runs insanely fast numbers up at bandimere.
So a stock E63 running a supercharged SRT8 seems about right, they're gnarly cars for sure but nothing beats the refined power delivery of a Mercedes .

True, all about traction off the line. Which I'm really curious what that will be like with an E63 since I'm used to floor-it and go acceleration from 4-Matic. I'm not really surprised a twin-turbo V12 would beat a stock SRT8 Jeep though

Off the line I can just floor it with ESP off, in Manual mode and do some chirping of the tires and Im gone. I have brand new 285 Conti DWs in the rear and they hook good. Yea those damn trucks launch hard! Im certain now, that the SRT8 that I raced was heavily modded or supercharged. My car putting down 420rwhp that's about 507 at the crank so I know my car is running good. Im not new to street racing. I love my E63. Such a great machine all around. Headers and tune in the future.

Yup I came within an inch of buying one...the first version of these were very scarce around here...this was two years ago..Actually very nice truck with brembo brakes, viper wheels, nice interior and big v8..just add a vortech and headers and a tune and you're good to go...no-one had broke the tune yet then so I s/c'd my Escalade instead and kept it until I bought the ML

Just to give you an idea. Here is video of me doing a dig race with a stroked SRT8 Jeep. Guy had 17K in mods on his car and was running 12 flats and a few 11.9s. This was against my GTO which only trapped 116-118MPH on a good day. Of course I had DRs but my 60s were only 1.85s to his 1.75s I believe.
Same race from his point of view. Jump to 1:25

I have been to the track 3 times from oct. - Dec. and 2 times there were 2 different SRT8 jeeps...one went 9.17 and the other went low low 10's like 10 teens if I recall. It actually may have went high 9's after I left...I can't recall if someone told me that or not. Bottom line...they do make them fast that's for sure! I am quite sure that both were TT'd.

E63 need tuning
Put some headers/xpipe Intake and a tune you will have a different car.
My car stock was just a car..until I did the upgrades and they I was in love.
gear change from 1-4 was sweet...and the sound like a big block ..
I miss my car.....but looking forward to a 63TT soon...

There are some members here that have had or still have a GCSRT8. My 07 SRT8 best was 12.84 with just CAI and canned tune. Passenger reactions from a launch was always fun! Come to think of it, so was the reactions from those killed!
But I am loving the looks I am getting in my SL55 now.

Those Jeeps like my wife's Cayenne are really fun to beat people at stop lights especially when the weather isnt perfect. A little cold or a little wet and you can beat about anything =) I really like AWD and plan on getting the newer E63 AWD once they get old and cheaper

I am waiting for the same thing...when they get down to the $50k's, like lower $50k's and maybe even wait until they hit the high $40's! I am in the biz so I can always check the auctions for cars with higher miles like in the 50k mile range. Find a friend who has auction access to get them $5k cheaper when the time comes.
Normally I would say let's race to see who gets one first but in this case it is let's race to see who can hold out the longest! LOL
