OT- bought a V8 Touareg

Got an offroad grey/kristal grey nappa interior/myrtle wood V8 T-reg with air suspension, nav, 4 zone climate, keyless, 19" rims with Pzero Rossos. $500 over invoice, sticker was $51015. Traded the 01 MDX for it. So far, so good. The nav suxs, the stereo is good (probably better than the E55 HK), airsuspension is pretty cool (can lower car to wash the roof!), and tires are HUGE 275/45/19. Going to tow the track cars with this baby.

Payment is about $300-400 mos less than a 4.4 X5(BMW killed the 04 residuals), and with full options it is $20k less than a mild-optioned Cayenne S. Rear seat design sux, and the cargo room is a joke compared to the MDX but I love the lines on the car.

Well, I have to get credit where credit is due so yes! However, I had been eagerly anticipating the thing since C&D showed spy pics over a year ago, and had been cruising VWvortex for over a year on the Treg forums. I was able to eliminate:

1)ML- I have never had so many negative recs from an enthusiast board. Plus, new one out in a year

2)X5 - residuals so low that a RR is cheaper to lease. Replaced in 1 year

3)Cayenne - odd looks, huge depreciation

4)MDX - cannot tow enough, new one in a year

5)RX330 - cannot tow enough, too girly

6)RR - BMW engineered car replaced in 1 year with Ford drivetrain.

Reports of higher VIN# Tregs seem to be more free of faults. Got my fingers crossed!

Thumbs up

congrats on your new suv.

i am also a fan of the t reg.
great interior quality. good looking exterior without over the
top styling. it will look good for years to come.
every time a see a cayenne suv i find myself thinking....cayenne designers must want to kick themselves for getting the ugly twin!

Some folks have alluded to the fact that the Tourag and the Cayenne are similar in many ways. I haven't been able to find any direct comparisons online, but I assume they share may parts or design features. Anyone care to comment on similarities/differences?

Thanks!

Here is an excerpt from the TouaregFaQ.com:

2.8. I've heard that the Touareg is similar to the Porsche Cayenne. Is this true?

Yes, it is. Porsche and Volkswagen jointly developed the Cayenne and the Touareg. They are built on the same chassis and share many components.

Although the two vehicles were largely co-developed, Porsche and Volkswagen parted company two years before the introduction of the pair to work in secret on the remaining aspects of the cars.

2.9. What components do the Touareg and Cayenne share?

The Cayenne and Touareg share the same chassis, transmission, AWD system, suspension, windshield, doors, and some sheet metal.

It should be noted that the Cayenne is more focused on paved-road conditions, whereas the Touareg was designed to be equally capable on pavement and off-road. Consequently the Porsche transmission is tuned with more rear power bias than the Touareg. Under normal driving conditions, the Porsche sends 62 percent of torque to the rear wheels, whereas the Touareg splits torque 50/50 front and rear. Both vehicles are capable of sending 100% of the torque to either the front or the rear wheels if traction condi tions warrant.

[need to research]

Hey eclou, you bought it from Archer, who as your salesperson? Do you mind recommending one? That's a great deal on the T-Reg!

Norb,

I dealt with a salesmanager almost directly. Adnan was his name. Not much BS, although the F&I guy Shannon tried to put a rip on me twice - first he pushed the "extra coverage" warranty saying that no electronics were covered, then he bumped my money factor up a point and a half without my consent. I caught it almost immediately. You can never get too comfortable.....
