Audio Gateway removal and replace....

agw
shardul is correct, but will say a few things. when you pull the carpet and clear that drivers side out, get your video camera or your smartphone and take some pics or better yet, take a video of the position of the agw, how/which wires run into which socket etc etc because when you do finally get it out, man its like a damn jigsaw puzzle and some wires dont want to "stretch" this way, the ground wire is in a particular place etc etc.... it looks very daunting when you first start, just be patient and take your time. once you get it all back together, you will have to take it to the dealership or if you have "star" may very well do it yourself, code it like the original one you replacing. sorry so wordy.

Shardul, thank you as always.
Green, thank you and don't be sorry, that is great info. One thing I didn't know was I would have to take it to someone to code it !!! I bought it thinking I could just replace and everything would start working again !! That's a pain I will have to take it somewhere and pay to have codes put in it.. I don't know anyone so will have to find a garage to do it so not only the money but the time. Oh well. Thanks for the great info thou.

yeah the dealership got the best of me on that one. keep the old agw until the coding gets done and everything is working correctly. they do have refurbished agw now, but just hold onto your old one until the new one gets coded correctly and then send your old one back if you go the refurbished route. an indy may use the old one to see what all was there. good luck man! glad to be of any help.

One think to keep in mind... When removing/ installing, be very very careful with the fiber optic cables (bright orange wires) if you bend them too much, they can break internally and cause all sorts of nasty audio noises or cause a no audio condition.

My question is how to remove the plastic panel without breaking it.

What exactly needs to be coded? I'll code it for you since you are in the Bay area. I am out of the country for a few weeks though. I am in SJ

The placement of the unit is pretty crazy but not hard to get to. Had to take pictures of all the connections and where the bolts went. I've wrapped and taped off the disconnected wires. So far, no battery drain and the only error that comes up is the voltage indication and a red screen that says visit workshop. I'm sure its due to the fact that the MPG page, and a few other pages are tied into the display provided by the AGW.
Lots of items tie into that unit apparently.

UPDATE: car batter has not drained since the removal of the AGW. Crazy how that thing turns on by itself.
Unfortunately I had a recent accident with the car and will have to wait a bit until I can purchase the AGW. Bummer....

My radio gets louder when i turn on the headlights and then quiet again when i turn them off. Otherwise it is normal and functional. The dealer today told me it was the audio gateway so I may be replacing mine soon also.
