looking to retrofit my 04 center console with a 2005+ roll back one - is it pretty much a direct fit or more work than worth?

reason i am looking to change is that the tab to open the butterfly broke off and can't find on line and dealer is charing $200 just for the 2 tabs - CRAZY

wife likes the roll back with the upholders on our wagon so thought i'd try to upgrade

You will need the center console and the shifter panel
The console i bought on the bay for like $50
I bought my shifter panel from Sir Boost a month back. They are harder to come by.
Other than that its pretty much plug and play

Op you will prob be spending the same amount of money if not more.

 

I did the upgrade a month ago, and so far it's great. For the telaid just leave the existing wiring there with the telaid button still plugged into the factory harness.

The shifter plate is by far the hardest part to come by, as your old one will not fit.

My car is in my garage now i would like to tackle it.

 

From my understanding you need the console and the carpet that goes on the bottom the old carpet will not work with the new one. Other than that it's really simple most parts can be found on eBay. I would message mertd93 I know he has done it. Seems to know how to retrofit everything.

 

why cant you buy the shifter plate from the dealer?

 

bc they will take your first born

Got lucky on the parts I found. $80 for console and $90 for shifter.

 

Can anyone confirm if I need the console carpet from an 05+ to do a proper retrofit? It look's like I don't need it. For those that have done this retrofit, please share your thoughts on this!

 

I guess I'm the only one that likes the 04 console way more than the roll up.

 

No carpet needed. Only the console and shifter plate.

BAHAHAHA LOL you're so right, it's about $500 and if you want to buy the center console from the dealer you'll need to sell your kidneys. You can buy a pretty decent car for what they charge for a complete center console and shift panel I needed to buy the E63 bumper genuine accessories a few weeks back and I swear I was gonna slap the taste out of the dealers mouth when I went to pick it up, smug B@$T@RD!!

But the newer console will not tie into the old carpet. The design of the new console gets in the way. I wound up purchasing a 05 Carpet bottom

What do you even mean by carpet, the car carpet or the center console compartment little carpet piece?

 

I'm with you on that. This is the sort of mod that is down to personal taste in aesthetics. They are both practical designs.

 

It's the guts of the 05-06 console that makes it incompatible with the 03-04. Not the carpet itself

 

Ohhh!! You mean that little piece of carpet on the side? Can that be removed?
