2004E55...vs...2005 E55
I'm planning to purchase a 2004 E55, I've already reserved a white one (fully loaded) coming Next February. However, a friend of mine who own W210 and planning to buy the new model, had advised me to wait 'till August of next year. He said MB is planning to release E55 with 7G-tronic transmission and would also change some of the car features!!
I read some rumors that E55 will be upgraded to 500HP… also MB will release E60 to compete with the new M5…E55 4MATIC…etc
What do you guys think? should I lesson to my friend and wait till next August for 2005 E55, or should I go ahead and purchase 2004 model.
Also what do you guys think of Albaster White E55 with charcoal/Dark Blue Leather and a pano? My brother isn't impressed; he thinks silver E55 is better. I prefer a black with Charcoal/ Charcoal Leather.

BUY THE COLOR YOU WANT!
If your Brother is buying the E55 for you get the color he likes! If he is just a "Looky-Lou" just ignore him. If you like the Black get it. If you prefer White get it. Your choice.
The rumor is that the 7 speed tranny is coming, however, I don't belive that it will change the drive or feel of the E55 unless you plan on doing a lot of auto shifting? I think the 7 speed is mainly for fuel econony and no one buys an E55 to save gas.
As far as the the rumored 6.3 liter normally aspirated engine, I think that will come near or with the W211 mid model upgrade or facelift for model year 2006. My speculation:
2005 E55 - 6.3 liter 4 valve Direct Injection & 7G tranny
2006 E55 - Mid Model Facelift

Color: pano roof on a lighter car (especially white) stands out due to its blackish color. Many people think it detracts from the appearance because the color change interrupts the "lines" of the roof of the car. Doesn't stand out at all on black or other very dark colors. You can find some pics of this if you look around this forum a bit.
4Matic: not likely to ever appear on an E55 in the USA.
Horsepower: the E55 is already 493 hp (you can find the official AMG chart in the archives here). Marketing issues have led MB to try to water down the E55 hp figures to placate SL55, S55 and CL55 owners. The 4 engines are all the same.
Horsepower will likely continue to increase every year or two. Just depends on when you want to "jump in". Like getting a new computer--wait a little while and whatever you purchase will lag the newest and best products.
7G transmission MAY appear in the E55 for MY '05, but as Kevin said, it won't likely add anything to performance and will potentially add extra weight. It's not something you'd wait for on the AMG models.

Waiting for 2005
I'm not a big fan of supercharged engines myself, so I was hoping a future E55 would return to a n/a engine with larger displacement. Also, I'm hoping they will add active body control and improve the brakes.
E55 KEV, do you have any sources for your speculation? I had read somewhere MB would go to a n/a engine, but i also have read MB was committed to supercharged V8's.

UK CAR magazine did an article on the future of AMG engines a few months back. The article stated that AMG was would go the N/A route in their future AMG cars. AMG was concerned that the Kompressor engines are overlapping with V12 twin turbo charged engines found in the CL 600, S600, and SL 600.
Maybe the writing is already on the wall considering the C55 and new SLK will drop the Kompressor for a naturally aspirated V8.

I hope MB doesn't become like the US and Japanese automakers with short runs on its models. That's why MB has such high resale, because the models didn't change to often. I can see the E55 going at least till 06, but MB will probably change for 05.

According to the MB press release, the 7 speed does more than save gas. On the E500, it improves quoted acceleration times. It is also claimed to give smoother shifts, faster kickdown, and first gear lock up.
Sounds good to me....
