using SLR cams

Did SLR cams require a other gear, spacers (sensor) or SLR springs?

I thought it required modifying the cam in some way but don't remember how. Im sure if you search, it'll pop up quickly. If I remember correctly, only a small group of members were able to acquire them before MBUSA made the SLR parts restricted

Your worst nightmare...
Many people did them back in the days, I did them, Chiro did it as well. Can't recall but all you will need are the Cam gears, one side has to be slightly shaved to fit in. Not that complicated.

Cam gears are identical even though the part number is different...so you don't even need those. Actual cam lengths are a bit different so one side needs to have the end shaved and the other side needs a spacer for a perfect fit. They will fit without the work but it will alter the pitch on your timing chains and likely cause premature wear.

Iirc, they were worth about 15-20hp. Not the best bang for your buck but back in the day we were all scrapping for anything we could get!

When everyone was buying SLR parts, why didn't anyone just send the parts out for duplication? hell the SLR intercoolers were suppose to be black magic. 10 years later, still not one has hit the market?

That's correct. No need for the gears, I found out the hard way. lol.
I had bought them but were identical.

I thought EvoSport started the whole dual intercooler project for this platform, but then their business went under...

If I'm not mistaken, they fell off the earth several months back (pretty sure Brad was posting stuff on this forum, defending their products, then he disappeared); some sort of financial fraud/scam happened in the BMW and other car communities, I believe.

To the OP-
If you are really trying to get every ounce out of the E55 and have $$ burning a hole in your pocket, then go down the cam path. But nowadays, there are plenty of other ways of making power with these cars that weren't available or proven years ago.

I think they were like one of the many projects from multiple manufacturers that began development on this platform... they kinda died too like most of the projects on this platform, lol

IMO leave the stock cams alone and spend the $$ on getting your heads done.

The reason for buying new cams is that the gear was broken and a valve was kissing the piston. On this fact my kleemann cams have imbalance now.

My possibilitys are:
Kleemann cams
SLR cams
OEM cams

Just stick with Kleemann.

There's not a big enough performance difference between any of the aftermarket cams to recommend one over the others. The Kleemann's and VRP/PTE cams are drop in while the SLR cams require some minor modifications. The SLR and Kleemann's will run like stock while the VRP/PTE cams will give a rough loping idle.

SLR cam specs are here
https://mbworld.org/forums/3004898-post33.html

I seem to recall the Kleemann specs are floating around the forum somewhere but I don't remember where right off hand.

I remember that cam spec post and it is good info. If you compare the SLR specs the the E55 specs, you can see that spending the money for SLR cams would not be a very good "bang for the buck". It is a lot cheaper to add boost for power on a supercharged car , VS our limited selection of cams to choose from..IMO..
