Grinding/vibration when accelerating
So this is the engine mount and bolt issue? Has anyone done something that completely resolve the issue?
But my problem only happens when it's stopped and you give it a hard accelerate and you will hear a loud grinding sound while it vibrates. I originally thought it was my tire that went flat and I was driving on rims and caused the grinding noise, then I found out that my tires were fine. So in my case, this only happens at first gear and give it a hard accelerate, and doesn't happen during driving. Is this the same issue as OP?
118k miles
A good test is open the hood and power brake the car a bit in drive and reverse, if you see the engine rise up an excessive amount, your motor mounts are shot.

First apologies for hijacking the thread. I have a 2003 W211 E240 with a similar issue. Will explain:
Replaced the transmission about 6 months ago because of an issue where the car was rocking forward in traffic situations. This was proving dangerous because there was no way to control the rocking movement when pulling off. With each surge there was also a slight grinding sound as described in this thread. The diagnosis was that the torque convertor was leaking badly internally. As I live in Sri Lanka it was easier to get a replacement transmission (722.6) than parts to repair the existing one.
With the replaced transmission the above fault is no longer there but the grinding/rumbling was still there, very slightly at first. Over the past few days it has got progressively louder.
-On cold start the vibration/rumbling is most prominent accompanied with a jerk when pulling off.
-When the car has run a few miles the initial jerk goes away but the vibration/rumbling is still there.
- Once everything has warmed up properly and run a few more miles the vibration reduces, but is there very slightly when pulling away from stationary.
- Sometimes after warmed up it is barely noticeable.
- The vibration is not there as it moves up through the gears and the gear changes are as expected, butter smooth.
- In Neutral there is no vibration at all. Reverse is fine, only in forward gear from stationary.
- If I hold the brakes while in D the vibration is very prominent.
Could these symptoms also be caused by the descriptions in this thread engine mounts, transmission mounts, flex plates etc?
Any suggestions are valuable and more than welcome.
Thanks
Roshan J
