18.3 MPG. I didn't think it was possible!
Spent Memorial Day weekend at the in-law's new pad on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC (30 mins north of Charlotte), and this was out first road trip in the new-to-us wagon. The tank included one fifteen-minute "first time brother-in-law-driving the wagon" run on I-77 up to 130mph and we still averaged 18.3 mpg, hand-calculated.
IIRC, average speed there and back, including a couple of in-town errand runs was 65mph. 3.5 hours to travel 272 miles. All of this with the three year old, 7 month old, both the wife and I and our crap, piled up so high I couldn't see out of the rear view.
I love this car even more now!![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Oh yeah, pic added as no one like threads without pics!

I drove through ATL and Charlotte on my way home to the Raleigh area from New Orleans on Sunday... Left NOLA at 10:30 (their time) and made it back before midnight (our time). Averaged 22mpg and average speed of 79... That includes two gas/food stops and two additional gas stops.... Was doing over 85 most of the way... Even passed a Mississippi State cop at 87mph who pulled out but ended up pulling someone else over (thankfully). Traffic was pretty light most of the way Sunday... Minus the stupid fools going 70mph in the left lane who refused to get in the right lane even with a huge line of traffic behind them!

Best I've seen is 23.9 on my daily run. That was my first cls55, this new one w/p030 runs a lot richer- 19.something is tops.

It's possible. These things are design to cruise the highway at high speed. I once get 24mpg. Last month on a 1200 miles round trip I got 21.5mpg. That's with four people and trunk full of stuffs.

Wow, this is all good info! I guess 18 shouldn't surprise me then! Usually the OBC tells me 11.5 after I get it from the wife, but she has an exceptionally heavy foot and travels back and forth to school with the kiddos, so no cruising. And my cruising speed was around 85mph or so, with a few "pass all of the idiots parked in the left lane" runs up to 110 or so. So I can't complain, as I'm not exactly a hypermiler, LOL.
Oh and OBC said 19.5, IIRC.

I toyed with a Prius on the last trip and believe it or not he ran out of gas before I did. We left the gas station at the same time. He stucked behind me like glue. I slowed down to get him to go pass, he wouldn't do. So I set my usual 84mph, he stayed right on my bumber. I slowly creep up and finally settle at 92mph and he seemed to struggle to keep up but he still tried. When we pulled over for gas I still have two notches above the 1/4 mark and he was empty. Granted his tank was probably smaller too.

I was coming up to a light and then an uphill merge onto the highway. It would have dropped ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I did the reset after leaving the shop that did my torque converter install and when I saw that, it was time for a pic.
I did a long highway trip last weekend. I was able to hold that 27 mpg for a while, then got tired of driving like a Prius driver. Kicking it up to my normal pace, it still held up at 25 mpg indicated.

The wagons get worse MPG than the sedans. They are heavier, which lowers economy around town. And they are much less aerodynamic, which lowers economy on the highway. And the air conditioning has to work harder, which hurts MPG during the summer.
Twenty point something is the best full tank number I've ever seen on my stock '06 wagon, per the display. That was on an 800 mile run on I-20 from Atlanta to Dallas. Stuck to the 70MPH limit and not much a/c needed.
Last weekend I ran down to the Texas hill country with a bicycle and rack on the roof, and a headwind. Barely managed 17MPG for the 300 mile trip.
The dash numbers don't mean anything on cars using different injectors.
