bad news from my mechanic

well put my 06 E55 in to have her looked at and see if he could find the gas smell and got bad news. gas tank is leaking and needs replacing! also my rear seal is leaking, tranny needs service cause last owner didnt do it at 40k miles, mounts need replacing, my windshield washer pump is out, valve cover gaskets are starting to leak and belts need replcing. but hey my brakes look good. lol all said and done like $5000. im gonna have him do the tank, rear seal, tranny service and mounts. ill do valve gaskets and belts. wow had the car all of 3 months so i plan on calling dealership where i bought it and tear into him plus posting all of this on their facebook page. he will try to run this thru warranty but come to find out i have a great warranty compnay but was sold the bottom line warranty they offer

i have found some info on a class action lawsuit dealing with the gas tank issues that i plan on joining. short of the tank i was prepared for the rest. just salty about the tank. was hoping for one of the other cheaper gas smell issues. luckily i just sold an 08 chrysler 300 that was given to me for $7500 so its all going to my E55.

Sorry to hear - especially since it sounds like you just picked up your E55 recently. I guess when you bought the car there was no documented service records?

For me, I would happily buy a car with higher mileage w/ documented service vs. a lower mileage one that doesn't have any records. It's a double-whammy - you pay more for the car because it's lower mileage and then you also pay for all the service (past due and upcoming) to get it up to par.

I wonder if independent car dealers have access to Vehicle Master Inquiry...

Sorry to hear but as stated, all common repairs. Look at it this way, once it's done you shouldn't have to worry about it for a while.

Exactly, me too. Also if well maintained all of the bugs should of been worked out. Updated parts etc.

Vmi is a internal document only. If the Indy dealer has a good relationship with a dealer they usually give them out.

amazing what a simply post on facebook does these days. i posted everything my mechanic found and how upset i was on the dealers facebook and within 5 min i got a call from the head dude at the don herring dealership where i bought the car. he is going to try to get me better warranty coverage for no extra cost or help pay for the repairs. ill be happy if they cover the tank and ill handle everything else. will see what happens as he is calling me back tomorrow morning.

Sorry to hear about the litany of repairs, but did you not have a pre-purchase inspection performed or review all the past service?

Didn't take to a dealership. took it to AutoScope in Dallas as i was referred to them by another member of this forum. so far he service manager has been great. i would never take to a dealership unless it was i had factory warranty on it still. the closest dealership to me wanted $2600 just for the tank alone not counting labor. im paying that for tank and labor at autoscope.

well its amazing how much can happen in 24 hours. i posted a negative review on the dealers website where i bought the car and within 5 minutes the GM called me. long story short he cut a check to my mechanic to cover full cost of the gas tank. also Carson at AutoScope in Dallas called and talked to fidelity, my warranty company, and got them to cover the real seal and a few other of the repairs. CARSON YOU ARE A GOD! so never under estimate the power of social media these days. im down to prob only being out of pocket about $1500 or so. im dancing a jig over here for sure. car is getting fixed RIGHT and for a quarter of what it was going to originally gonna cost and it will be set for a long time to come.

Glad to hear the referral worked out well. Everyone at Autoscope works hard at customer service & their MB mechanic knows his stuff. I have a lousy extended warranty company & it's like pulling teeth to get them to cover anything. Never get a warranty from Diamond Warranty Corporation!

best thing to do is once the repairs are made repost on the f/b page how the gm stepped up and made it right as well as the warranty company. neg posts work well and positive posts work even better down the road. just sayin

already did that 320, even though he still hasnt got the check to autoscope yet. i went by autoscope this morning and met with Carson and paid what i owe. Carson is as cool as the under side of my pillow. saw my baby again and carson put my car up on the lift and showed me all the work they did. he is a MASTER of customer service and bent over backwards dealing with the asshats at don herring in plano. Monday they are supposed to deliver the check to carson so i can pick up my baby. new gas tank, new motor and trany mounts, full tranny service, new belts and replaced the faulty windshield washer motor. i did plugs and air filters last week so my baby is gonna hum like a new ride!

Glad to hear it worked out for you! Keep in mind, These cars are 10 years old or more. All are very common for these cars. Nobody said owning this car would be cheap. But, again glad you got a positive outcome.

nice, so the GM came through and covered most of the expenses? Glad to see that the car feels/runs alot better with all fuel problems it had.
