B8 S4 made it too close for comfort. What's the deal with these?

Dude what the krap guys you must all be racing full modded B8s, they really are not that fast. I'm surprised to hear you guys running barely beating these things. Switching from my B8 to the E55 is NIGHT and DAY. Elevation wouldn't be doing the B8s any favors either...

I wouldn't say barely beating. I a straight line it would be the same as beating a stock M3, but in my case the S4 got a good start from the lights and entering the corner before the straight, he was able to put his power down much earlier than I could. I had to play catch up by 2 car lengths, on exciting the corner, and was trying to keep my car pointed straight when he was already hauling *** in 2nd and going for 3rd. There was never any doubt about who was going to win, but over a short distance those little S4's can get up and go.

I ran into one a couple of months ago. From 60 i let him get the jump. I was ahead many many bus lengths by the top of third.. we had a chat at a light and he was stock and at the time I was to. stock for stock no comparison. Start modding and the skies the limit right. I had a gti, yes just a little 4cyl turbo keep up so you never know

I got absoulutely killed by a highly modified one a few months back. Seriously, he put three cars on me immediately and I wasn't reeling him in. We went twice with the same result. Granted my car is factory stock but I've run lots of other cars and nothing ran away from me like that S4. AWD makes all the diff from a dig.

I know I am referring to my comment where I said my E550 loses to stock S4s up here but down at sea level I don't, which was the only mention of elevation up until your reply. You said elevation isn't doing the S4 any favors and I thought that comment was kind of strange because it would effect both the E55 and S4 equally since they are both supercharged.

Private event this weekend. I ran one of these this weekend.. Stage 2 (Pulley, tune) and exhaust.
I was extremely impressed with how it ran. Following were the results:
40-100 pull - I only put about 3/4 of a car length on him as we were headed for a dig race (just so we are on the same page his bumper was at my rear wheel) and thought "I am in big trouble"...
Dig - he got about a car length on me out of the hole (I had a pretty good start). I reeled him in even by 85 then GRADUALLY Pulled by a whopping 1/2 car length at 125 when we shut it down.
There was a modded up S3 out (that I didn't race) that beat the S4 by a 1/2 length to similar speeds from a dig. The S3 rarely - if ever - loses to anything from a dig.
After the run we chatted, he thought his car had about 400 AWHP, I told him mine was 495 RWHP & 570RWTQ and he didn't believe me until I showed him the pic of the dyno run. He was pleasantly surprised at how his car ran. I shared that his car is very efficient (500 pounds lighter, 6 speed dual clutch transmission) and all the dyno #'s are bs in many ways.
What is the moral of the story?
IMHO unbelievable performance for a 3.0 S/C. I also was a bit disappointed (surprised) I didn't walk him up top then I reminded myself of the day I was at the dyno shop where I put down 438 rwhp and my buddy with a new 6M Hellcat put down 662 RWHP. When we left we went from 40-99 mph and he had me by a fender (yes, he was starting to pull)...
PS - Dyno's are a joke!
