T or F: MB mechanic told me that an E55 pretty much has a bullt proof drivetrain?

Just bought an 03 E55. Overall very clean and maintained. Has 130k. Had it inspected at a MB Dealer and everything looks good on it. Asked him about the little shake at idle and he said that all E55's do that and he also said aside from the air suspension these cars dont really have major issues and that the transmission's are one of MB best. How true is all that?

And at that T for the drive train, if you keep it stock!

With mods... Well, anything can happen.

Depend, you may get away with a .22, but a .45 may put a hole thru the block. And let not talk about rifles

Yeah, the engine and tranny are very solid, but all the electronics crap that come with the car make it unreliable.

I tell everyone the same thing... I bought this car for the motor / trans (trans, not really because it's very sloppy and boring), but the fact that both are very strong, that's the reason for my purchase.

Yes, all the BS sucks... SBC, Air Suspension, Fuel Pumps, etc. A few of these components going bad can be as costly as an engine failure if you're not under warranty.

While it may be true that there aren't any MAJOR issues to worry about on these cars, the MINOR items can still eat you alive financially......

I've lost track of the number of Keyless Go door handles I've purchased to replace the ones that keep failing. Valve cover leaks, rear main seal leaks, Bosch I/C pump, ball joints, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, front battery, rear battery, defective NAV DVD unit, alternator, panoramic sunroof motor, CPS, fuel senders/fuel filter..... etc.

Fun car, but don't believe the hype that they are cheap to own.

Sold - 05' E55
I hope you bought the 03' with a 130k on the clock at a decent price?
Did you get a history with the car? Maybe motor mounts are needed, or plugs and wires? You shouldn't feel a shake at idle?
Take care of her and she'll take care of you -

Good Luck with her.

Everything checked out fine, it's not a rough idle, it's a slight shake when sitting, I'll check the date on it,what's late build date considered?

Also, what's the two buttons in the arm rest? The I and the wrench?

I've broken the trans, drive shaft and driver side axle. JS

If you don't want it to break then don't mod it.

If your cars build date is 6/03 ....then the radiator leaks into the transmission and that's another issue that can cause a real headache later on down the line research it a little you'll see what I'm talking about ...... The radiator change build date was in 9/2003....I think....

Buttons are telaid, to call because of mechanical breakdown or to get information (paid mb service I think?)

You can just ignore the buttons unless you connect the specific cell phone telaid requires.
