*Not my call, but percentage wise your on the right side of the equation. These engines are not going daily. Mine had a weak link that gave out.

I ended up dumping it to a person that has the ability to bring it back to life. And what I learned along this path is if she blows under 80k miles there is a decent chance MB will work with you. Between 80-90k a gray area. Anything above 90k and your screwed, no leverage.
Thanks a lot for the response. It's greatly appreciated information and very helpful for the forum.

jdeastbay… Sorry to hear, as mentioned hopefully some goodwill will be done by the dealer. Keep us updated, Good Luck man!

Sorry that you had to dump the car off like that. What are you thinking about getting as your next car?

Based on how jdeastbay took care of and drove his car I think this catastrophic engine failure is totally unacceptable at 105,xxx miles.

This is either the 2nd or 3rd thread that I've read on here with a major engine failure on the E63.

Is this expected of the M156?

Given the higher amount of miles this doesn't appear isolated, this is probably representative of a high mileage 2007-2009 E63?

How much would a used M156 with 40-60k miles cost?

A good engine, $15,000 ish. May be able to find one a little less with higher mileage or cracked pan or cracked intake or something out of a crash car. At least, that's what I've been seeing.

jdeastbay:

I asked my service advisor about your issue and you may want to give another dealer a try? Worth a shot since your other option is dumping the car off to your friend anyway.

They mentioned they had an occurrence of a busted head bolt on a 63 and the repair job wasn't as bad as expected. However, you're most likely going to have to pay out of pocket?

Either way, good luck and I'd like to know what u get next.

Where are you in east bay? I go to both MB Oakland and Walnut Creek, but I found that even their techs are hit/miss, esp on AMGs/V12TTs.
Good luck.

p.s. i had always heard AMG engines were bullet-proof, other than the bolt issues on the C63s?
