I think just.....Take an Allen wrench, 5 mm ball end.... and and pull the plug and see if oil drips out .......the plug level is what the oil should be filled to (like the rear diff)....on level ground with something stuffed underneath so you don't drop the key/plug..... If you just want to check yourself. then when you're done clean the area and the next time we take your car out, see where the oil is coming from.... Unless this fixes it....

By the way. If any one wonders whether appropriate to service the supercharger oil, weistec recommends oil change every 50,000 miles.

Change is so easy and based on recent finding of only 30 cc of badly degraded oil remaining in my supercharger I will change every couple of years in the future.

Got done changing mine a few days ago, spent 30 minutes trying to extract the damn old fluid with no success. Used multiple syringes, hoses, techniques and managed to get vwry little out. I even parked on a downslope. Must have been very little in there because i filled atleast 100ml and it didnt start coming out till about 120 -130ml later. Goes to show that the stuff does evaporate even though on the mobil website it states it has anti evaporation properties. Another thing i can rest my mind about now. Dont hold back if you havent done yours do it asap.

It might be coincedence but are you sure its not coming from the supercharger pulley bro? The grease from the nachi bearing bonds to the paintwork if it is leaking and spraying from between the clutch and the pulley. I had one do that to me a long time ago (before i went clutchless) and the grease stains are still left under the hood. Take the supercharger pulley off and examine it for a leaky bearing from the inside if you cant see any grease leaking near the snap ring.. 20 minute job bro save you ruining that paintwork under your hood and using the painters tape.

Well yet another maintenance item I need to do ...

Just out of curiosity, for those that have performed this maintenance, have you noticed anything positive afterwards ? I am wondering if folks were running on so little oil, if now their properly oiled supercharger is quieter and running a tad more boost?

I havent opened her up yet, i dont know if it is a placebo effect but the blower seems to sound smoother. I road tested after the change 60km/40 miles and so far so good. It wont do any damage knowing how low low the oil was before, the bearings inside need to be cooled and lubricated to function correctly. Its not a difficult job, i wedged a rag below the allen grub nut and used tweezers to pick it up off the rag once undone because i couldnt find a magnet. The rag works best. Make sure you stuff it in so as to not leave gaps on either side, it also soaks up any overfill.

I just did mine as well. Very little old oil extracted, refilled with about 130cc. I sealed the can and plan on doing it again every couple of months until I use the entire can of JetII. I did have a long 5mm ball allen that I cut the small end down to make it easier to turn in tight spaces to restart the plug. I also used yellow PTFE teflon tape (for oil and gas applications) to seal the plug.

Took it out and lit up the ESP light at 50MPH, so something improved!

Going up in the world! - have progressed from hand operated bicycle pump to battery powered fish pump this time. Although we only did the initial change a few weeks ago the oil still clearly smelt like it came from a barnyard and had a purplish tinge this time. Managed to extract about 275ml.

Don't wait too long even just to add oil to the supercharger! Yes you can notice a difference the supercharger will start to make noise if your oil is too low and you can damage it. I have 50,000 miles on my car and it Took a decent amount of oil and the car desperately thanked me afterward... I suggest all members add oil in the existing oil at the very least.... Don't wait too long till you'll need a new supercharger

^ I gave up trying to extract as i only managed to get very little out. If you cant get much out like me, just fill till it trickles out of the drain hole. I added about 130mls, i put the syphon back in and managed to get only orange oil out so my guess is there was nothing left in her. Dont hold off its very easy to do. Follow the steps above, 30 mins tops

Look at your supercharger pulley bolt... it's hollow with a little hole in the front. Oil will come out of that hole if the level is high... or if you tip your supercharger forward while it is off the car. Take a Q-tip, swab that hole, and see if you get any oil. If so, that's where it's coming from. Why is there a hole there? A German engineer decided it needed to be there

Yeah I had wondered about that. Calling it "Deutsch Technik" reassures me of its (apparent) validity...

+1 to the supercharger oil being consumed or evaporated during operation. I do this appx every 20,000 miles and oil removed is always less than oil put back in. I have never measured. The supercharger may be pulling oil in at some points during operation due to some due to portions of the internals operating at negative pressures, or it could be just evaporating. There have to be some significant pressure differentials internal to the sc, especially as it is clutched in and goes through a big transient each time it pulls in(nature of the beast)...Regardless it is an easy DIY and +2 to those who took the time to write up.

I'm not sure about the exact increment of oil that should be added to an empty supercharger. But if the supercharger is level ....it's like a differential on a rear pumpkin, where you fill it to the Weep/fill hole ..... Fill the supercharger up through that hole and when oil starts to come out then put Teflon tape on and plug it... I would hate to have you have low oil because you only put 130ml

It appears many are getting ~30 - 40 ML out and replacing with ~130 ML vs. the OP getting 200 - 300 ML, which makes me believe folks are not draining properly (SC not level). Either way, the difference in what goes in vs. what goes out should be a good indicator that an oil change should be done more frequently. It is too bad AMG did not incorporate a separate oil take for the SC (e.g. like Rotrex does). I wonder if it would be relatively easy to add an external tank after the fact ...
