Rear Main Seal checklist
Welp, here comes the first big bill ![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
After 15 months of fun with the double-nickel, she's developed a bit of an oil spotting problem. Definitely coming from above the pan. Seems more on the passenger side but I assume that's just the easiest path for it to follow. I saw my garage floor and knew it was probably time for some surgery.
So I did my due diligence and searched, but it seems no one has ever confirmed the parts needed for the job. Can we get a guru to confirm these? I'd like to get the parts ahead of time so I can just roll into an Indy and tell them to get cracking. Here is what I've found so far.
You will need new bolts for flywheel as they are stretch bolts
the torque converter bolts part number is A 124 990 22 01.... i think you need eight of them
(rear main seal)part# 112 997 0246
rear main seal retainer # 112 011 0208
You also need:
End cover
Trans fluid as you have to drop the trans and drain
might as well do oil change when your there as when you remove the end cover you will lose some oil
when you have the trans out might as well flush it, change the trans filter, and do the electrical plug as well.
And lastly, a vendor chimed in that did these jobs and stated this was their package:
MBZ Rear Main Seal Replacement:
R&I Transmission
R&R Rear Crankshaft Cover
R&R Rear Main Seal
R&R Flywheel Bolts x8
R&R Transmission Line Seal x4
R&R Pilot Bushing
1 Qt of Mobil 1 0w40
1 Qt of Transmission Fluid
Mercedes Benz Sealant

I hope my seal is not leaking again because I know they didn't let it cure for 4 hours. They called me soon as they were done with it. I will have to check it out!

I checked today with the parts guy at dealer for info on the end plate. Searching by my cars WIN there was no indication in EPC that the end cover should be replaced also. There were 2 numbers for the rear main seal, both were for the same part. There really was no info that end cover should be sold with the seal![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
So we basicly by accident checked the crankshaft, and it has been upgraded in motors after WIN numbers reaching "something", probably somewhere in 04/05 and there was clearly info stating that with the new crank there should also be sold new bearings and both main seals.
So has anyone got better info on this, and know for sure that the end cover upgrade effects all engines across 03 till 06, and if it does is it because the seal itself has a different outside diameter?
Also what is this?
" rear main seal retainer # 112 011 0208" ?
