Engine water pump frustrations

That's exactly what I did with my new MB pump. Sat on my front steps outside add little oil & slowly walk them into those unthreaded mounting holes with a ratchet a little bit, back out, add oil again, and go in a little more. Repeat.
I will never throw away nor return my old core, ( Merc would give me 55$ for the core ) they are too hard to find. I have a gmp pump and my old core in spare now.

So you can buy any of the cheap pumps and self-tap a thread in there for the pulleys?
Did i understood it right.
Anyway there is ONE replacement Part available that IS fitting ONLY for the 55 Kompressor engines.
Its "Febi Bilstein 36786 Wasserpumpe"

I thought that odd too. Our price is HIGHER than the list price? WTH.. I sent them an email asking to explain.
I'm completely building my engine from the ground up. I will be needing this shortly and am glad you guys have posted this. I guess It's just clear that we have to tap the holes. No big deal.
