Anything on the e63 m156 that is known to drain power?
I was just wondering if anything is prone to go bad on the m156 that will decrease power. For instance on my e39 m5 the MAF sensors and o2 sensors go bad without throwing a code and completely drain the power out of the s62.
I want to make sure i'm doing whatever I can to keep my engine in tip top shape before throwing on the mods.

Not sure of anything that would not throw a code.
I would say that a catch can would be a good idea. But I would not bother unless you clean out what is already in the intake manifold.
In fact, I figured out how I get my little blue puff of oil smoke out the tail pipe. I pull my car out of the garage, then realize I need to run back in the house. I turn off the engine. When I restart, puff of blue smoke.
It is from the intake manifold. Sort of the M156 coughing up some phlegm.

I would've thought maf and exhaust sensor (as you mentionned) would be the two prime items that when they slowly die (particularly exhaust sensor) would affect power. Not by a huge margin, but enough to be a nice increase in response when you replace them.
If your car has over 60k (and being an 07 model) you might want to replace the exhaust sensor for a new oem one...if anything it'll surely keep your fuel economy in tip top shape.
If you really want to go large - you could have the valve clearances checked if the mileage warrants it. Does anybody know if this motor uses shim/bucket type adjusters for setting the valve lash?
