I bought an '07 E36 several months ago that didn't come with the engineers signature plate. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to get the proper plate for my engine with the VIN or someway else... It looks pretty bare without it..

i'd ask your service advisor. Usually they're only put on cars in germany, but you may be able to get one off a salvaged car

I kind of want the one that belongs on the car. I know thats a pretty big order but a guy can dream. lol
I'm told the 6.3's don't make it to the salvage yard before they're already sold..

Off of the top of my head I think all amg engine plaques are the same so try some other vehicles etc. I would assume your intake was replaced at some point (due to vacuum leaks) and the tech was too lazy to swap it, unless he kept it like a d bag. As far as I know there is no way to find out who built your engine to order a new plaque. You can try contacting AMG directly or MB Classic center. Doubtful your dealer will be able to help.

The factory knows who built your engine. Just need the VIN.

Go to the PL and see if they will help you out.

As you know the engines are assembled by hand by one tech in germany. Mercedes policy clearly states that after any major engine repairs are performed that the plaque must be removed as the original tech that built the engine can no longer give the engine his seal of approval. The only way to get it back is if the dealer performed the AMG engine recertification process, this is a costly certification as the tech has to be present for repairs and typically the customer does not want to incur the added charges. Hope this helps

I can say that I have worked at a few MB dealers, one being part of a very highly rated nation wide group of dealers and this has never happened. We were rebuilding 156's left and right a few years ago and the plaques would stay in place. As far as I know they have never sent a AMG engineer to the USA to "sign off" on a AMG engine rebuild. Maybe if you had a CLK GTR or something but do you really think they care that much about a e class

^^ care to share your experience ? Because this " send an AMG guy" stuff does not happen here.

And calling others shade tree is just childish.

I have the carfax. I'm the 2nd owner of a low mileage (less than 40K) E63 thats absolutely flawless. I cant see the intake or anything else being replaced and not showing up on carfax.

The 63's with the m156 engine, especially early ones had lots of intake leaks. 99% of the time it was just gaskets or a breather but if it was repaired early on or by a tech who isn't as familiar with with the 156 or wanted to error on the side of caution may of replaced the whole intake. The plaque should of been swapped.

Carfax does not always show everything in the history of a car. Only what's reported and public record. Best way to tell is to do a Mercedes vehicle master inquiry. It's a MB internal document with full history of repairs at the dealer. If you want pm me your vin and a email and this "shade tree mechanic" will run one for you.

Btw I'm sure your car is flawless and at 40k mi there is plenty of life left in her. My highest mi amg (also probably the worst built amg ) ml55 has almost 220k mi on it and running strong. Just keep a eye out for coolant consumption. 07-09 have the weak head bolts.

T case selector motor failure? Low range light flash when starting it? 99% of the time it's a t case motor.

Pm me the Vin's and I should be able to look them up next week.

NOPE, NOPE and NOPE. WOW.

New ones are about $80 at the dealership (Obviously they have to custom order it), all you have to do is prove you own the car.
