few questions about some cooling components
i saw some images and i want to learn more on the my car cooling systems
can anyone please tell me what is that fan on the left side in front of the wheel?
next, what is that long tube in buttom?
can anyone explain me how does the cooling system in our cars (W211 E55) works? engine, oil, gearbox oil etc'.
what shoud be the normal working temp' range of the following:
cooling liquid
engine oil
gearbox oil
im asking as i want to do some logs for my car and to make sure all in the correct range as my mechanic suggested my gearbox oil gets over heated.
what may cause the gearbox oil to get overheat?
what are the possible solusions?
thank you all for your help!

Thank you for your reply!
That trans' fan/radiator is installed on W211 E55 from all years?
By the way, the large radiator between the headlights is for the engine cooling water right?
Any ideas on how I can improve my trans oil cooling?
Is there a way to do it with stock configuration or must go for aftermarket parts?
Again- thank you!

the cooling unit with the fan is engine oil cooler. some years have a second engine cooler mounted under the the heat exchanger in front the ac component ("long tube" on bottom) I believe.
trans is cooled through radiator. but the second picture you posted has an aftermarket cooler for trans cooling mounted in front of radiator

but mine doesn't have the trans cooler that the opening pic has ( looks aftermarket.
mine also has the 2 vertical coolers.
plus the larger HE.

yes, the largest one in the second pic that is farthest back.

A great way to learn about the specific parts on your car is to go to one of the better online parts wholesalers like "parts.com".
You type in the year, make and model and it gives you a list of areas on your car to search, , like cooling.
Once in those areas all kinds of parts diagrams pop up to show you exactly what everything is called.
There is also epc.net, I think the first way is easier.

Thank you all for the info and details.
I've been trying to monitor the transmission oil temperature & engine oil temperature using my OBD wifi scanner & Torque application but seems like it can't show those.
Is there any way I can monitor those temperatures?
What should be the optimal range I should look for (Celsius if possible).
MANY thanks!
