SC Pulley Shims
Replacing my SC pulley bearing and I noticed there is 0.002-3" groove in the back of the SC pulley. I assume there is also some measure of wear on the clutch side, but no way to quantify it.
So my questions:
I have three 0.003" shim washers behind my pulley. Can I remove one to compensate? Two?
Should I clean up either surface?
Any constructive feedback and ideas will be appreciated!
Thanks!

All depends on how much clearance you have when all is said and done. Case in point, I literally just replaced mine today and I needed ZERO shims to get adequate clearance.

Doh, feeler gauges. Thank you!!
I hate not having a full set of service manuals. Where did you find this data, love to be more self-sufficient. :-)

Just searched:
W211 Service Manual
E55 Service Manual
Both again without the word "service"...
E55 pdf
W211 pdf
It may be in a thread somewhere, but damned if I can find it. ;-(

While on topic, I tried putting on the new pulley today. Oem is fine with ample spacing.
Other new pulley on and multiple shims, it still makes contact and only gets bad when drawing up the bolt. Both spins with the bolt hand tightened. Total of 5 shims used. Feeler guage used and couldn't get much space at all much less .35-45
Bearing to forward I'm guessing ?

I changed my SC pulley two days ago and I didn’t know that there should be a specific clearance space between the clutch and the SC pulley , my new pulley came with two shims and the original pulley had 3 installed so I just removed the old ones and used the new 2 shims, I had a paper with the new pulley says that the clearance should be something between 0.5-0.75mm but I didn’t know what does it mean at the time when I did the installation , now I measured the clearance and it is about 1mm which I think too much according to what you mentioned in this thread however I have no issues at all with the car and it looks that the supercharger works find so far ….. please let me know whether it is important to remove one the shims to reduce the clearance or I can keep it as-is since I notice no issues with the car? Is it safe? And what is the consequences of having clearance bigger than the specified standards?
