Now looking into this 04 vs the 03 -update post 8

I posted the other day about looking into the 03, but after listening to some suggestions, I started to shy from it. I have come across this 2004 though, which has a few other options - though no push button start, active seats, or pano.

He's willing to do around $16,000. Thoughts? Seems to be in better shape than the '03.

04 is definitely better to get than the 03. Very standard car though, only options are alcantara headliner and nav

All things considered (82k miles, very good conditions, basic options, stock) would you say $16k is a good buy on an 04?

Depends on if it's a nice car or if it's a worn out, used car lot rat.
If it was somebody's baby that's had all its needs taken care of, that's a great deal as those types are getting harder to find. If it's been passed around to a bunch of owners who didn't know the car and freaked when they got the repair bill for something that needed fixed, I wouldn't want it for any price.

It does say "aftermarket pullies" in the ad. Does that mean just the idlers (common failure at 50-70k miles) or the blower pullies?

Youre in SW Florida? PM me your number, I'll go over some things to look for when you test drive it.

As far as the pulley goes, I asked him and he said it's not a smaller performance mod, but rather one meant to keep from the belt slipping at WOT, which he said has been known to be a problem on these vehicles.

Two owners, one being a doctor who babied it and this guy who also seems to have babied and garaged it, kept up on maintance, and doesn't race it.

I might be looking at it later this evening, so any assistance would be appreciated im in fort myers, so not too far from it myself.

So, just checked out the vehicle. Idles well, pulls strong, runs well. He can get me maintenance records from the shop he takes it to, which he said has several past Mercedes techs. Also, the only issue I found is the sunroof, which doesn't auto open or close. To open, you have to keep clicking the lever back every few inches, but closes without stopping when holding the lever. He has already replaced SBC.

He will do $16,500. Thoughts?

Very clean, inside and out. Manual mode works excellent.

The sunroof issue is likely not a problem at all, it is more than likely just that the battery has been disconnected and never reset the sunroof. If you go look at it again try clicking it till fully open and then hold the switch in the open direction for a few seconds, then all the way forward and hold again. After this the one touch auto should work normal again.
