Still 102* iat is not high , compression test would tell a lot, is the car idling rough?

Add: if you smelled gas then obviously there could very well be an issue with fuel pumps or tank

How expensive is it to get a used motor there? If your compression test comes back bad then you might explore getting a used motor.

I dont want to have to even consider that at the moment. Currently there's a motor for sale on ebay pulled from a wreck going for $14,500 - from there prices only go up...

No the car's not idling rough. Guess that's a positive sign?

Wow, that's crazy high compared to here. How much would it cost in duty fees to import one from the US? I've shipped a few LSX engines to oz in the past and freight wasn't as bad as I thought, +/- $1250US if I recall..
A good used engine here is $4-5k.

I doubt your engine is bad from the sound of things however.

I agree if it's not idling rough or throwing smoke I don't think you have a bad engine but always good to do a compression test every so often

Leakdown test can give more info than a compresion test, if you have those gauges.

Update

I took a look at the fuel pump today and to my eyes the wires do appear melted - I have included a couple of pics for confimation by those more knowlegable.

I did take it for a round the block drive and she didn't like it at all, sort of lurched a couple of times mildly plus a bit of an exhaust rattle when taking off once. After this I shot a short video of the motor - When revved I noticed a little smoke coming from the manifold.

I also bought a compression tester today but wont have the chance to use it till this time tomorrow. I guess that will tell the real story...

Not sure as they were in the car when I purchased. Right after posting this though i found the warranty extension issued by MB for 15 years for the fuel pump and was about to post on the forum when I noticed Greg had already posted an hour ago lol. I'm assuming (hoping) the extension to the warranty will be applicable in Australia also.

I did look at the pump when the car was off the road 3 months ago and I'm certain the wires were not melted then. I wonder if the lack of fuel has caused other issues or how the pump fits into this.

I'm guessing that bit of smoke would be a burnt valve?

The fuel pumps cause a major problem especially at wot.
Do a compression test and find out if all is good, if it is replace the pumps

MBUSA settled so I don't think it will apply to anywhere else unfortunately

your pumps are shot, only found my pumps were gone when i dynod it and it starved fuel at 5K rpm.

i think you have found your problem there and i wouldnt drive around like that in case you cause more damage due to fuel starvation.

This place is a joke.

Im thinking fuel pumps and filter now that those other guys have mentioned it. EDIT: (@#%* holy **** I actually missed the photo of the pumps somehow) Yeah its almost gauranteed to be your fuel pumps.

Is there a chance they've never been changed!

My car is in NZ and has 236,000kms on it and its probably on its second set of pumps and filter which are well due for another change.

Also IMO the supercharger clutch needs maintenance once it gets up that high k's I reckon its best to take it off get the clutch milled by .1-.15mm on a surface grinder to get it flat again (I dont reckon the things are even flat from the factory!!) Then reset the clutch gap to spec by removing 2 shims or so.

But I certainly doubt that the clutch is causing the issue you describe.

Well I got the news today and it's all bad. The compression test reported the the cylinders compression as follows:

50psi
50psi
120psi
90psi
40psi
30psi
130psi
150psi

Haven't looked inside any further but with those figures I guess I'm looking at a new motor?

This is another great reason when you have any type of performance car modified or not and you beat it pretty good....the most important tool you can own is a wide band air fuel ratio gauge. If she runs well at 11.1 and you see and change from that you know you have a problem. I will not tune a car at all unless there is one in the car. It is the only way to "SEE" into the engine at any given point. Sorry to here the engine is hurt. Good luck.

Get another opinion from another shop before diving into a engine rebuild/replacement. My LandCrusier had horrible compression but turned out to be the gauge. I can't say with confidence that is your situation but it can't hurt to get another compression test done to confirm.

Sorry to hear man. They are fabulous cars, but they do go wrong and damn it's $$$$
