Just call a local dealer and ask them to pull the VMI and see if it pops up.

Sweet! I usually only notice the fuel smell in the garage right when I fill it up. I'll be taking it in soon then.

In addition to the fuel smell, I've also had the following occur twice, once on my way home from picking the car up in Chicago, and the other mid-way through a two hour drive. The fuel gauge suddenly goes blank, miles until empty shows 0.0. The first time I had to pull over and restart the car, the second time it came back to life after 10 or so minutes. Fuel sender unit related? Anyone experience this as well?

Just Dropped Her Off

Just dropped off The Beast this morning @ Virginia Beach MB Dealer…
At first the Serviced guy did not have a clue of what I was talking about.. I told him that my VIN should show that it has some type of Fuel system repair Extended warranty… He continued to act like he didn’t have a clue.. I resourced to my phone to pull out the MB letter posted on here.. Than he all off a sudden knew exactly what I was talking about, I didn’t even get a chance to show him.
None the less he said if after they diagnose the problem and deem it related to the warranty information that they have, it should be covered… right now I’m still waiting on their call.
I’m crossing my fingers
I will be posting on the status:

My gas gauge had stopped working all together. It registered, but was NEVER right. I am embarrassed to say that I have in fact run out of gas twice in the last year...lol.

Good news is that I picked my car up today and she is running great! Man did I miss it! The gas gauge is back to 100% accurate.
It appears they even steam cleaned the interior and cleaned all the leather. They didn't say they did, but they are cleaner and has a nice aroma.

THANK YOU MBUSA

So I went to my stealer today and asked them about this. as it's been stated here, and I just want to confirm the process with you, I am supposed to make an appointment to have the car diagnosed. Once they see the problem, which they will, they repair the car (my stealer said they would need to order tank). My question is, did your experience compare to what I am describing? How long was the car at the stealer? And did they give you a loaner while it was in there?

I'll bet the wiring harness is melting under your rear seat and shorting out the sender wire....

How many miles on your car? Have you ever replaced the fuel pump/sender (at the 60,000 mile service?)

Leaking fuel and melting wires = No Bueno! Get that car checked out SOON.

I brought my car in for an oil change (had a coupon for $94 he-he) and mentioned that "I intermitently smell gas". Told the SA to check the VMI for an extended warranty that was just issued by MBUSA for fuel components. I was told I needed to leave the car and given a C class at no charge through Enterprise.
There was some back and forth while the dealer, SA and Tech got on the same page, but everything was replaced as my car came up "fuel tank". You could not smell fuel at the time I dropped it off, but I am sure an inspection showed leaking at the pumps/senders under the rear seat.

It took a week. They had to wait for one of the sender units and the tank.

I honestly think, as more dealers get experience with this warranty, (and see that they are getting credit from MBUSA) that this repair will become very routine.
With over 300,000 potential claims out there, let's hope parts don't go on BO for six months!

Did you fill car up to brim, and check for leaks under passenger side tank door (under rear seat)?

I didnt check that myself. I was going to but the metal covers have a glue on them and i didnt want to remove them and then have the dealer reject it because someone touched it. But I filled it up to the top before i dropped it off

I just got off the phone with MBUSA. They told me that I can call the MB dealer I got the work done in and have them submit the receipt for a refund. I called my dealer and told them about it and a service manager said he's going to look into and give me a phone call. Ill keep you guys posted.

For those that are getting a new tank (which is likely all E55 and E63 models),
Do you have an estimate of when the parts will come in? I've been waiting two weeks now, with no word of when parts will arrive.

This place is a joke.
The E320/500 complete tanks are on "parts hold" meaning MBUSA is currently not shipping any to dealers, with no ETA. Also no ETA on the E/CLS55 complete tank assemblies. Again, I would strongly advise everyone to WAIT until the dealer network is up to speed and the latest and greatest parts are available before bringing your car to the dealer. The 2 complete E320 tanks I did see were factory assembled and LEAK TESTED which is superior to any dealer assembled units. Again, my advice...WAIT until this is all sorted and parts are readily available.

About 4(ish) weeks now. According to my dealer, the tank is on order from Germany.

Or better yet, rush to the dealer for service the millisecond that they announce a warranty extension and then b!tch endlessly about how they don't have parts or expertise about the repair process....
