Exclamation Exploding Airbags

Driver side Airbags exploded on me while driving. No impact whatsoever. Driving on the freeway at 55 mph and all of a sudden BAM, left 3 exploded on me and my car stopped with SOS. Towed it straight to my mechanic.

1) Insurance is covering airbags. My question is do I need to replace the airbag control module as well or... just replace the airbags and reset the module.

2) I have no IDEA what could have caused this. I don't have time or patience to go through mercedes to conduct an investigation. Anyone have similar experiences?

Wow tha'ts crazy!!! Do the module and sensors along with air bags. Man if that was the left side you would be putting a dash in as well. That really sucks, sorry to here that.

Did you hit a pothole or anything? Maybe file a report with the NHTSA to top off MBUSA's last few months of recalls

Nothing. Now when I get it back, I'm going to be fearful to drive it.

That is crazy. I am hoping the car will tell a story about what happened. I am sure it threw a code or message right before it happened. Are you OK though?

Who makes airbags for Mercedes?

No kidding, I'd want to be confident to know what caused it first before getting back in there

Thank you bro I'm fine. Right now insurance is causing the biggest bottleneck ever. Bishes take ur money every month but when we have an issue they take their sweet as time.

Even though nothing happened to me, thank God, the impact of that little ****ty airbag was so strong that it hit my neck and moved it quite a bit. I can only imagine how strong the steering wheel airbag is.

Dunno why but I felt like something was going to happen that is why i was driving 55mph, which I RARELY DO. It's that GUT FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG. Right before the airbags exploded, I remember that the message "Battery low: temporary functions unavailable" was showing, the brakes were shaking when I pressed it, and I was hearing wierd noises in the tranny.

Hope it isn't Takata.

If the car was acting funny right before it happens most likely it was recorded. That is intense man. Glad you are OK.

I can't bring up much info from 2003-2006 but Chrysler and Benz shared parts. Takata supplies airbags to Chrysler so who knows. When they remove the old airbag ask them who's name is on it.

Thanks G. The hardest hardest thing is just trying to understand what could cause it.... I'm thinking something short-fused.

It all happened on the 2nd to fast lane in fast traffic and someone hit from behind but 0 damage. Stuck on that lane for 30 min till tow truck came. SHE HIT ME AFTER THE AIRBAGS EXPLODED NOT BEFORE.
