We need a good lithium ion replacement battery. This company Shorai makes really good ones for motorcycles/ATVs/etc.

Their largest battery has 540 CCAs and weighs less than 5 lbs.
Toadster can email them and ask them to make batteries for our cars. win/Win!

I think the problem is that they're not rated for street use, I think that probably cost money to get that done so they don't do it. Also the stock battery is 85-95 amp hours while those lithium batteries are much less although it might have been a little overkill on Mercedes part to spec such a big battery.

well, I found out that Sam's Club won't replace the battery due to resets, etc.. honestly it's not a big deal, power windows and pano roof reset is stupid easy...
looks like i'll have to wrench it myself and exchange...
$169 plus if you use FatWallet you get 1.5% Cash Back
but hey - $2.50 can buy some gum or something

the new battery is in - voltages check out MUCH better now
key turn to #1 = 12.7V
key to #2 = 12.3V
one hint - I kept my positive battery terminal cover from the MB battery, since the extra cabling is bundled with the positive terminal, the cover that comes with the Energizer Max sits too flush to account for the wires attached, so I re-used the old one...
the Energizer battery also comes with dual-vents so the external vent works great, and they even provide a plug to cover the opposite vent side
