E55 Spare Tire Area - What should it look like?
Hey All,
I bought my '05 E55 used and am wondering what kind of covers our spare tire is supposed to have..
Mine looks like this but with the regular spare tire. Just the cover that props up on the trunk like that. But this cover isn't hooked into the trunk really at all and seems to fall into the spare tire area a little bit towards the back of the trunk.
I've also seen this cover, is this something that our cars are supposed to have underneath the floppy cover?

My e55 has a full spare like the one in the photo #1. And also my 07 E350 looks like the one in the photo #2. Believe me or not theres a donut style spare tire underneath that cover where the batteries area.

Also - one thing I noticed after getting a flat in the summer - the RED Velcro strap that hold the lug wrench and jack in place is actually threaded incorrectly as indicated in the OP's post - if you don't want any rattles it needs to be reversed so the Velcro comes onto itself - no rattles!

I battled this for a few years - until I took the time to actually look at what the issue was. On the cover there are 2 clips that is what holds the cover into place. My clips would always fall out and the cover would move out of place, sag etc. I tired some 3M VHB tape - that failed - then I thought about it more and got some short screws and put them in with some tape over top to prevent corrosion - has not moved and inch since I did that. In fact on the clips I'm pretty sure it was meant to have a screw - they just cheeped out at the factory for whatever reason.
