Having difficulty locating oil leak

i have had an oil leak going on for some time now, but I haven't driven the car is months. It was nice today so I thought I would investigate further.

I don't believe it's the real-seal, it's a possibility that it's the valve cover gasket but I still question that. The only think that makes me believe it might be the valve cover gasket is because oil is getting In contact with the exhaust manifold and burns off.

The reason why I DO NOT believe it is the valve cover gasket is because there seems to be oil coming from somewhere in the from left (drive side) of the engine, there are two hoses that extended from the oil filter box (Forgive me lol, but whatever the technical term is for the base of where the oil filter goes) to somewhere near the radiator.

I couldn't pin point the EXACT location, but I believe it's some high-pressure hose, is there common leaks with these hoses?

Might be the top part of your gasket where they used the rtv.
Or could be a leak in your oil filler neck?
I would try cleaning it all up first and pin point it.
Im just guessing it might be those 2 places since I just did the whole gasket on both sides recently.

It seems to be a high-pressure leak because it makes it on to the air duct and even the insulation on my hood

that response is right on man

Hey you know what i would do is the valve covers reseal and this time use some gasket sealant and you will never have another leak there. Reseal that oil filler cap too, its just held on by a twist of the filler cap, not too tight for sure. And over some years and miles will surely loosen up. Just would take about 3 hours total to clean, remove old gasket rubber material and reseal. You wont have that problem again.

I know I need reveal the valve cover. I'm just a little confused as to why/how I am getting oil on the air intake tube, all those noses, as well as the power steering fluid reservoir (all of these components are Front of the engine). I'm finding it hard to believe that all this is caused by valve cover gaskets.

i can understand....

i know it may seems like its more than "just" the valve covers but these covers are notorious for leaking. cannot stress that enough. but first things first: you have to start by eliminating that whats so obvious and quite frankly, thats whats so easy to do also. looking at your valve covers, looks like they maybe leaking all around the whole valve covers. and these "leaks" only get worse over time if never addressed. so start that "repair/fix" first and remove that obvious problem and then go from there. lets not go looking for a needle in a hay stack if there is one needle right there poking you in the face. lets get those valve covers fixed/resealed and then lets see if that stops the oil leak.

I clean the area and ran the car long enough to have pinpointed the problem to be the oil filler neck, more specifically the oil cap, but that's also maybe being optimistic. The reason why I believe it just the oil cap is because there wasn't any leaks at the base, where the neck meets the valve cover.

How many different gaskets are in the filler neck? I would assume one at the base and one in the oil cap, correct?

only 1 i believe

i have done this repair and i only remember 1 gasket. but from the looks of your valve covers, there seems to be slow leaks all around??? unless all that oil is coming from the filler neck only?? i would do the whole job but to answer your question: when i did the repair, i only place the gasket sealant on the gasket right at the neck where the filler meets the valve cover. easy fix btw.

I mean I haven't driven the car more than 10 miles to make the call on this leak, but I'm fairly certain there's no leaks from the valve It's just oil from the filler neck, and some sealant beads.

I'm thinking about just replacing the oil cap and going from there

that would save some time...

sure thats a good idea. it will be a very quick fix too. if you go with a gasket sealant, do the job when you can let the car sit overnight at least so the sealant can have time to dry before you drive it. dont use alot of sealant, just use a thin layer, you dont need a lot there. there is a screw inside the filler neck, you will see it when you take it apart, make sure you snug this screw down too, that should help also. good luck and i will say about 30 minutes max from start to finish man. take care!

Got to autozone...get yourself the oil dye($5-10). Borrow the leak detector(uv light & yellow glasses). Pour oil dye into car...drive for a day or two...Put on leak detector glasses..shine uv light...It will be obvious at that point. I've done it a few times with friends and family cars. Good luck!

Okay so I've confirmed that no oil is leaking from the gasket covers or oil filler neck...

Is there a diagram of hoses in the front of engine somewhere? Preferably one that's labeled not just eBay pics lol

I have the exact same leak. Dealer said valve covers are leaking. It only comes from that one bolt and gets oil everywhere. No oil smell either.

The fan is blowing the leak so it is probably not under pressure. I would get the valve covers, vent covers and filler all redone. I just don't get why it shows up on the air inlet that far forward of the fan.

check oil pressure port on the drivers side under the oil filter area. Also check the oil filter housing itself.
