Oppurtunity to buy: '05 E55 Flint Grey Mostly Loaded 160k miles, $8k
Need some advise please... Friend's good friend was offered $7k on trade in, and so I told him I'd possibly buy for $8k. I was told the owner is meticulous about everything in life including his car. All work has been done at dealer.
Is this crazy to buy? Will this thing last until 200k without major issues if it's been properly maintained? I've read in other threads that if the SC fails it could be a 7k job, airmatic is costly etc. Are there certain things that if taken care of properly in the last 30k miles would make this a good purchase (airmatic, main seal maybe, etc)? I'm leaning towards buying a lower mile e55 and getting a warranty for maybe 27k, but since my friend is vouching for this guys ****-ness I thought I shouldn't be dismissive of the opportunity. $20k difference is a lot and at first glance is very tempting, but so is 160k miles.
I drive about 17k miles a year. thanks for the input.

How does the car look? Go pull a VMI report if everythings always been done at the dealer. I have no doubt if its been maintained and taken care of there is no reason these car shouldn't go past the 200k mark.

The mileage doesn't bother me if it's been maintained right, what does bother me is that it's super cheap.
Even with high mileage why not asking 12k or so, especially if it's clean, doesn't make sense

because the dealer offered 7k... I said I'd pay him a grand more. he's a rich dude, doesn't really care I think. people who trade there cars in are doing it for convenience..several grand doesn't matter

I got to tell you I have never met a rich guy that doesn't care about money, they care about every dollar. Maybe that's just my experience?
He could literally put on Craigslist and get 12k or more lol

OK thanks to you all I'm committed to this...
Now hopefully he accepts my offer.....and doesn't think that trading in is a bargaining chip with the stealer on a new car! Lol
