Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

I was originally told that since they came from different factories, they couldn't handle the delivery, legal reasons and other BS. However, the real reason is that #1, NON-AMG cars delivered in EU do not come from a dealer's allocation but AMG cars do and #2, it is a boat load of paperwork and legwork to get it done. You need to go to a really big dealership that has a lot of EU delivery experience. Even then , the normal channels won't know what to do. Oh, yeah. Be prepared to pay the price.

I was offered an E55 this summer for my EU trip but I'm thinking that waiting for an '05 car might be get me a 7 speed, cosmetic upgrades and possibly better brakes!

Yeah, E55AMG99 basically sums it up. I think the biggest reason is AMG cars dont NEED to offer ED. Mercedes dont want AMG cars to be always "readily available". If you want such a prestige car, you order and wait. And the allocation is another big factor, you still need to go through US dealers and ED orders dont count on their sales. Dealers dont get the credit nor the profit.

They don't want you to get the ED discount.

Dealers dont get the credit nor the profit.
If they dont, then why wouldnt they more willingly give discounts on the car?

Its unfortunate that you can't get AMGs on European delivery. Otherwise, I'd love to be able to drive the car to AMG and get AMG exclusive options added.

You can if you know the right person at the right dealer. As far as adding AMG options on North American cars at the factory, that is something I'm still working on.

I was told by the General Manager of a local dealership that if I wanted to get my E55 in EU, he would make it happen. He went on to explain that none of the deals apply to AMG cars like the 7% discount and reduced shipping. The biggest thing that makes EU delivery is that AMG cars still come out of the dealer's allocation. They love delivering other cars that are hard to get in the US because it is a freebie for the dealer.

He also said that it is a mountain of work for them and that very few people know how to do it.

Thanks, E55. Can you give me a name to pass on to my dealer?
