Which One? BMW or Benz

As many of you know, I sold my CLS back in November for an Audi. Let's say probably one of the biggest mistakes. It is a fun car but no power. Looking at E63 (W211) or F10 550i. Both are sweet cars I think. I love the classic look of the W211 but just seems outdated sometimes. 550i is newer (2011+) but with a tune/exhaust, I think it can keep up with the stock 55K/M156 engines, somewhat. I am leaning towards the BMW but the W211 is just saying "don't let go". If anyone got suggestions on pros/cons of both, would be awesome!

Why not get a W212 E63? That would solve it right then and there.

Cars have been getting more square for years now. They will be going round again soon I would guess. Nothing looks more outdated than a square car in a round world. Drive a classic Mercedes until it comes back in style!
Funny I faced the same choice and bought a CLS instead of either.

Yeah I don't like the sharp new bodies, hence why I want the BMW. It is more rounded than Mercedes

I almost bought a F10 550i M Sport Package with Dinan stage 3

I would chose the F10, drop a tune and if you can source M5 exhaust, your set. and maybe downpipes later you'd be pushing over 550hp at the wheels

ohh and yah AUDIS suck

He says he doesn't like square/sharp cars and likes rounded ones. A W212 E63 is also superior to a TT E550. Sure, you can tune the E550 but the AMG comes with the bodykit, the suspension, the brakes, the quick MCT gearbox, the race-car like engine, the exhaust sound, the interior.....

Do you like to work with a sledgehammer or a scalpel?

AMG guy here...More fun with a sledgehammer!

I'm going off price. You can round out the body of the e550 and enjoy the hell out of one

Probably going to get a 550i this week. E63 W211 will always be special to me but I think I need to stay newer to stay away from the old age. 550i with exhaust/tune is as fast as E55 stock and honestly, BMW are always more fun to drive but Benz does have the up on having more power always... Then again, I change my mind a lot and get a Honda haha. JK!

I chose the W211 E63 over the W212 specifically because I don't like the W212 looks. The refresh looks better, but I still prefer the W211 E63 - it's a modern interpretation of the classic Mercedes look IMO. And the M156 rocks in a rwd wagon that has 3rd row seats. =D.

I love the F10 - beautiful design. A tough choice for sure!

I think you should buy a car in Houston so we can get you back out here. I think I still owe you a round! Either way we'll have to see how fast you run back to the benz life

I honest think F10 is nicer than W212.

I wonder why W212 change so much body style... every 2 years, they do some changes and this will make car depreciate faster IMO.
2010 => 2 fog light and LED light
2012 => Different LED light
2014 => Major change

THe F10 BMWs are good cars, but there's a huge lag with the turbo 50i engine when you start from a stop. There's a good half second delay if you go from the brake to the gas quickly. That part irks me.

While I don't dislike the overall design of the F10 BMW, I find that the front design is a little weak to me, especially in light colors. Again, personal taste. I do like the rear of the F10 though, great looking rear.

The F10 will feel like a much newer car than the W211; heads up display, high dashboard placed navigation, it'll feel like a modern car. The W211 feels very dated to me.

Is the BMW 550i you're consider AWD? If you don't need AWD, I'd consider the M5 if it's a choice. Great car, very luxurious ride and feeling, quiet, and refined. Very refined. The previous M5 was a bit of a handful to drive and was more Hyde than Jeckyll, this one is perfectly docile and can be both Hyde and Jeckyll equally well.

My humble opinion: I did a paint correction on a 12'550i, I guess a "M" package, he had the "M" all over it. two weeks ago. Nice car for sure but when I sat in the car it immediately felt like a large car, not like the Merc. When I cranked it and heard it running it sounded like a V-6 and nothing like a sports car sedan should at all. Then when I took it to the paint shop for touch up, driving it, I swear I was drving a 7 series. No kidding, to me it felt the same as my old 750iL. The drivers position, the look out the window, the big feel, and the comfortable ride even on sport setting. It to me honestly felt nothing like a E-Class does, let alone a AMG version. I felt a huge difference just in neighborhoods between a normal E and the AMG version. They drive totally diff IMHO. So therefore I say Merc all the way and it will save you the hassle of returning back

I found a 550 M package with 22 months warranty left so it won't cost me much to own it besides maintenance so I am good. Did some research on the 550 and pretty impressive with just a $400 tune and few add-ons.
