airmatic acting wacky.
2006 E55. It seems that only when the car is in the lowest suspension setting (none of the 2 bars lit up?) the airmatic does whatever it wants. Started the other day when I went in to the bank for literally 2 minutes and came out to the rear of the car sitting on the ground. This has happened a few times. Then I was flying around town and an esp malfunction came up on the dash so I get out to see the rear right only on the ground. Funny thing is that when I set it to the first suspension setting (1 bar lit up) it will never do this. I can also leave the car sit outside for a few days and the car stays level so leaking is out of the question. Any insight?

Car has 45k miles. It seems to just want to dump the air as it pleases. Right rear dropped as I was driving and wouldn't fill back up earlier today. Let the car sit for a few hours and filled it up to operating height right away and it stayed at that height with no problems. Weird.

Sounds like a car that had a aftermarket adjustable lowering modjule spliced in, then removed and wires not spliced back together very well, making for a bad connection. Back in the day that was the first mod to get removed before trade-in. (worth about $1k) Lots of cars with hacked AirMatic wiring.

Hmmm interesting. Looking at the rear pass side it seems like intermittently the pressure relief valve is getting stuck open. Instead of dumping a little air to adjust height it gets stuck open dumping all the air. The air bag then will not inflate until that valve closes since after the car sits for a while then I can get the bag to infate to proper height.

Initially that was the case or so I thought. Now it will fail in all modes. Intermittently. A small leak in the airmatic bag will leak slowly. When this one leaks it dumps the air out in a matter of seconds. I let it sit for a few hours then it holds air perfectly. This is why I think it's the pressure relief valve.

Sounds like you are closing in on the fault, one thing to remember is that the AirMatic compressor will have double duty keeping up with a leaking system. This causes the relay to melt from the compressor running over time.

Mine will drop in comfort in hrs. In sport 2 it takes a week. I just keep it in sport 2. I was going to get arnott air springs but I think it's an airbag. I assume the airbag is used in raised and comfort. Not sure though

In comfort only one bag is pressurized in the front but in S1 & S2 both are pressurized. I know the arnotts for the rear don't have the remote accumulator like the OEM's do.

The rears have 1 bag per side. I can usually knock them out in less than an hour per side. But I just had extensive shoulder surgery and am out of the game for a few months.
