What size Winter tires
MB manual says 245/40/18 front and rear. Tirerack says for E55 it is same as summer. What sizes are mmebers of htis forum using?

Dunlop M3's ,245/18 on Moda rims.(per Tirerack recomendation)
about $1750.
The car performs better now ,then my old S8 on stock tires.

It's a standard Tirerack pkge for E55,245/18 all around.
S8 was Audi A8 performance model,sort of like AMG for Mercedes.

Undoubtedly, you lose some cornering compared to stock tires. What is the straight line acceleration like? Do you leave a trail of black on the pavement if you floor it?

I have the same experience as MRW (though not in Chicago). They do have less traction in dry conditions and I wouldn't really push it hard off line.

Poor traction in the dry,so I'm not to hard on it.(don't want to replace my winter tires in mid winter)

Real Cars
Just had the dealership put my M2s on today, and wow - incredible difference. Absolutely night and day. I agree with absent, this car now is comprable to my old Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 which was AWD and on all seasons - probably even better since this car has better braking.
