Transmission slipping HELP
Hey guys and gals,
I need your help with figuring out what's going on with my transmission. I was driving to work one morning and reached the first intersection near my neighborhood. My car was in drive. The light turns green and I start to accelerate. I got up to 15mph when all of a sudden the transmission totally slips in drive, manual mode or reverse. There was also a weird winding noise every time I gave the throttle some gas. I ended up towing the car home. The next day I started the car and everything was back to normal. I drove the car up my street and back with no problem. Today I drove it a little further and it totally slips again(Nothing in drive, reverse, manual mode plus the weird winding noise). I turned the car off for 5mins and back to normal, so I drove the car back home with no problems. There are no signs of trans fluid leaking. I can't even check the trans fluid level(Don't have the special tool). Is there a chance that my transmission needs to be replaced. Has this happen to anyone else? I haven't towed it to Mercedes yet because the only dealership we have is very far from where I live. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I could be a multitude of things. Get it to a good MB shop and have them diagnose it. Throwing speculations around only results in anxiety, loss of sleep, and thinking your on the hook for thousands when it could be a small fix.

I had the same problem with my CL55 and I had to change the transmission, I was trying to fix it by changing the electric plate twice, which kind of helped for a bit but eventually had to change the transmission. Your best bet is to scan it and see what faults you come up with

It's happened before to a lot of people. Go pick up a generic dip stick and take a look at the trans fluid. I hate to do what I just said not to, but 2003's are known for coolant and tran fluid mixing in the radiator.

check the TCU for fluid contamination
straighten out a coat hanger and put it in the trans dip stick hole. if the fluid level is less than an inch you are low on fluid

Your filter is probably plugged up. The problem is what happened to plug the filter. It could be a clutch in the transmisson and it also can be the torque converter. I just had a customer car that the one way roller in the converter blew up and the metal dust from the converter would plug up the filter. It would probably be just best to get a new trans and converter and have the cooler and lines flushed.

Not sure about your symptoms, but I did find this 5-part video series to be very insightful about some common 722.6 transmission problems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdt4...ature=youtu.be
