If you do a search you will see that unfortunately there is not a great choice, only kleeman is left and they are not very aggressive.

PTE made some but doesn't make them anymore

Once I tear down the spare motor I have I will be sending a company the cams for them to profile them, and then decide weather to weld/regrind them or do billet cams. I know this does not help you immediately. I cannot see paying $2500 for a set of Kleeman cams that are so mild. My custom cams will be cheaper than that, and built to my personal specifications.

That is fine by me. I like to come out of a deal smelling like roses. I should know a little bit more next week.

Dirt Scooters
Let me know how this goes. I've also been there and done that. I also probably know more than you do about PTV clearance and coil bind and so on. If you want to get "aggressive" then you will need cams made from blanks and finding a company that will make you 2 cams is next to impossible not to mention going to cost you way over $2,500. Stock cams are induction hardened so hopefully you know what that means for re grinds.

A regrind is not the route that I am looking at. Billet cams are what I am going after. I am going to have to weld a few lifters to make them solid in order to get an accurate PTV measurement. There are plenty of companies who will build a set of one off cams. You just have to know who to get in contact with. I have been flat out rejected by a few, but that is fine with me. There are still craftsmen out there who enjoy a good challenge. I am in no hurry to do this, but am not sitting idle either. I should have a head off this weekend, and will begin preparation for measurements.

Valve springs/retainers are going to be a whole different problem though.

I hate it when I come across unfinished stories like this! Any updates?

E55 and several 928s
This is the answer to almost any thread that has to do with development on the cars with the M113k motor.

30,000 cars.

That, from the math I can find, is the absolute maximum production of any of the 5.5l supercharged cars of any of the models that had the motor. That is less production than massively rare exotics from the last 40 years.

There were 14,000 Gallardos made, we are only double that.

Mix that with essentially 3 years of production, and you have a car that will never have even a moderate platform for production.

The CTS-V has low prod, but the engine and trans are in 100s of 1000s of other cars over a 8 year period.

We should be grateful for the people that do develop. Support them.

I am, and I do.

I spend a lot of time researching stuff on this forum because there's a TON of knowledge here. I was just voicing my frustration at coming across lots of incomplete stories. It really seemed like member 211.070 was going to post some findings about making custom cams. I understand that these things are hobbies for most of us and going back to close the loop on a forum post may not be at the top of everyone's priority list after they have either solved a problem or given up on it.

But now I'm left with that same feeling I had at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. You know what I mean; knowing you would have to wait 3 years to find out if Han would have to stay frozen in that carbonite forever! It's kinda like that. ;-)

Check with Crane Cams. They are very knowledgeable and have been very helpful to me over the years.
