Cheers Sammy, not quite an SLR - looks can be deceiving... Still I'd be happy with either.

The motor is pretty much stock with mostly oem parts. The motor shop did go the extra with finishing touches though to smooth flow etc.

Turned out great but wouldn't have been better to just put forged pistons and get ported heads after going to the trouble. Setup a killer cooling system and max out the bolt ons and build a beast, the fastest in the country probably and maybe even shoot for the record

PS. When you say they "smoothed flow", are you saying they ported the heads?

Of course it would be better for added performance, but adding forged pistons and porting the heads will add another $3K - $4K to the bill, which will probably double the cost of this rebuild..

I would have installed ARP rod bolts and head studs at least..

Looks like they put a coat of paint on it. Looks good Hopefully it's high temp and doesn't flake with heat down the road

Yeah we can all dream big but this is a daily driver and my priority was to get her up and running reliably on a tight budget. Still I hear ya - would be nice...

And yeah heads are partly ported (short term radius etc).

I really wanted to but even bolts would have been almost AU$1000.

McLaren Engineering is probably the best performance motor shop in this city.
She's in good hands.

Just have to knock a new keyway in the crank pulley then smoke and pressure test her prior to going back under the hood.

Yeah, for us here in the US the head studs are around $650, rod bolts around $550, and main bolts around $750, so it definitely adds up fast..

Well, you have a newly rebuilt motor and having a brand new 55K is a very good start!! Trust me I know!!

Any mods like headers, TB, and/or more boost for this beast??

Those prices still seem on the high end but cheaper than down under!

Yep I'm pretty chuffed - a new 55k is a VERY good start! I will probably drive her more carefully than ever.

Mods are listed in sig...

Thanks. If anything I'll upgrade the cooling down the track.

Dirt entered through a failed gasket and scoured the cylinder walls. Needed to resurface using the Alusil process.

Not sure. There was a car on carsales, silver, E55, moderately modded, should run low 11s with the mods he had but never seen any time slips in Australia. I guess the scene isn't as big. Most of 4 doors at the track are Ford big 6s.

Yh I decided against it at first but to be honest I'm just gonna do it, I need to scratch the itch so I can move on feeling satisfied. Not gonna do a build thread though, it's like bad luck, too many people have made them, promised alot and delivered nothing. Building it now and I'll show it when it's completely done but it will definitely be in the deep 10s. Gonna max out the bolt ons. No Weistec SC though, not gonna spend that much on it. If it wasn't for the written off car I bought I wouldn't be doing it but this is gonna be pretty cheap for what it is actually Also I've learnt ALOT in the past few months on Mercs and have grown to be less intimidated by these cars.

Good on ya, that's the spirit. Look forward to catching up down the track if I ever make it that way.

Mine ran 11.6 @ 120
Haven't had a chance to get back to the track.

This is what the E55 AMG's V8 motor looks like when it's removed from the shell of its W211 home.
