That's so ****ty. That is such a minor wreck compared to a lot of stuff that gets fixed out there, but the $$ parts takes the claim over the limit. That car could be fixed for less than $5k including paint, buying all the parts from guys parting cars out on this forum. RIP

Question for all in case anyone is in a similar situation: would the insurance company value this car higher with all the mods/work done? I always assumed no and that they would go by market value. I.e. If you wanted it valued higher with them you would have to state the modifications and they adjust their price or seek an agreed value policy.

it's hard to get money for mods but you have to fight them and there's alot of back and forth negotiation. Only time i've seen or in my case been involved once was when a lawyer was involved and even with that the lawyer had to negotiate like crazy

Unless the claim is a first party claim,( meaning it's you claiming on your own policy wether you caused the accident) you can absolutely get reimbursed for mods/accessories.

Youre not going to get anything for maintenance type stuff , as in oil changes tires and brake pads but keep all your reciepts because as long as those parts are on the car, that's what it will cost to replace that exact car. I've dealt with insurance companies countless times in this manner and as long as theres documentation, you win. I promise you.

Why not just buy it back? Fix it yourself with the money they give? And if not why not just ask a buddy to buy it back from auctions.

I know some insurance companies don't give you money for mods unless you tell them otherwise. I had my wheels stolen from my car but insurance can't cover cause they weren't aware of the wheels prior to the theft.

I am not at fault in the accident so I would expect to be covered.

Unfortunately, not how it works with A LOT of these companies. I actually had Geico cause it was cheap but their policies were a bit "cheap". I switched to Liberty and pay $13 more a month but my dad was with them for 20 years.

When I was in an accident, where my car was hit while parked. Liberty came out and paid for everything, even my mods cause my wheels were damaged. They said a lot of companies say anything to get your money. Liberty didn't even ask for a receipt for wheels, just did a Google how much new wheels go for and cut the check!

Still waiting. Called for an update today 3 days after sending all my documentation for parts. They are still reviewing they say. So then stopped by my agents office to get them involved to fight for me for vaule and quick resolution.

Are you claiming it on your insurance? Or is the at fault drivers insurance paying the claim?

We both have the same insurance company so you know they don't wanna pay for 2 cars already. If they had another company my comp would likely not care and just get paid back by they other drivers comp.

Both having the same company notwithstanding, whose policy are you claiming your damages under?

Damn, it's not a good week for Unicorns... Mine got tagged in a parking lot tonight... Doesn't look bad but looks like it's probably time for the E63 bumper upgrade on mine

Sorry for your loss

I get it.....they are not gonna total this car. I am sourcing all the parts. Used parts that is. Communication with the adjuster for me at least, has been key. Won't know the verdict until Friday. Prayers fellas!!
