Our cars have hill assist...

but only in comfort mode--at least that's the only time it has worked in my E55.

Can anyone else confirm this? Also are there additional SBC modes for say stop and go traffic etc in our cars. I did some research but some old threads were not clear whether or not this function was implemented in US spec cars.

The "hill assist" is because of the gears in the trans and starting out in second gear. It will roll back when starting out in first. The info is somewhere in the w211 forums.

I'm not an engineer but that sounds counterintuitive.

Hill assist oddly enough is in C mode only. In S the car rolls backward on steep enough an incline where it wouldn't in C.

Using STAR I enabled SBC-H in my '06 which keeps the brakes applied with foot off the pedal, but does require a deliberate pump on the brake to activate after a full stop. Disengages after another brake tap or applying gas.

Ha, that's so weird to me. Why in c mode but not s mode? I could see leaving it out in m mode because that mode is more about having control over the tranny. What abut the other SBC modes? Did you enable that with star too? I wonder if there's a way to program the same "hard brake pump" with a button on the steering wheel instead?

Could not enable other SBC features. Was stopped by a password prompt when entering the brakes dev mode screen in DAS

SBC Stop Mode

"SBC Stop" can be enabled via DAS in developer mode. It's quite handy.

What year is your car? Did you have to get past a password challenge trying to access dev mode menu for SBC?

SBC-H is the default when you set the central gateway to ROW (Rest of the world) it also disables your side marker lights

Correct, setting to ROW is what I did to enable SBC Hold. But how to enable SBC Stop?

my CLS had it also.

To enable is to put the pedal to the ground as much as you can and it will hold. As soon as you hit the gas, it will let off

Can this be changed to something like "press of end call steering wheel button" will hold?

Ok, well I'd happily give up my parking sensor on/off button for this. Audi has their stop light brake assist in a similar location.

As far as I know SBC-H can be enabled in all years. The SBC Stop only in pre-2005 cars. If anyone can figure out how to do it in 2005 and later, please do share. I have never tried hill assist - not really had the need to.
