First dragstrip outing in W211 E55

Unforunately my car has a faulty TPS at the moment, which appears to be affecting top end power, but not bottom end.
This has resulted in a trap speed of ony 111.84mph. The good news is that even with Brabus 19's I managed a 12.29

I am hoping and expecting to see 11's once the TPS is fixed and the ECU mapping of the car is completed. Unfortunately for me, at this time, James Cannon keeps his crown.

Here are some video's my son took, if you are interested.

Great run stephens. I am sure you will post an even better time once everything is completed. I saw on a different MB board, that a guy from Texas ran a 12.08 @ 116+. I believe his only mod to the E55 was a bigger "snorkel tube" from the air box to the grill. The left side tube was more restrictive than the right. He gave a part number that can be purchsed from MB for $15 if I remeber correctly. No time slip was given, but a great time to say the least.

Yes the 60' time was 1.832 secs, I only had three other runs, but it was very consistent. I also did a 1.814sec 60'. I should have gone bracket racing. My times were 12.315, 12.292, 12.337 and 12.517. On the last run I got to the gas a little too quickly and ended up with a 2.034sec 60' time with wheelspin through most of 1st.

2004 E55
nice....

What method did you use to launch?

ESP on/off?
suspension setting?
gradually floor it or just mash the pedal?

Any details would be great.

I did a burnout through 1st and second after the water first, then with ESP off and no torquing up the transmission, smoothly onto the power. Suspsension was in sport II and the aircon left on.

In my experience,"soft" set up gave me a better launch.
I'm sure with A/C off you would have even better time.

I'm sure you are right. As explained to my son Jeremy when we got there, my intention was to run mid 12's and "learn the ropes" as this was first time as a participant in legal drag racing. I'll start fine tuning the next time.
Out of interest what times and trap speed did you achieve?

Stephen,

Your car with mods is putting out close to 600bhp at the crank? Is this correct? Now the mods you have done are done with the powerchip company, do you think its worthwhile tuning the V8K cars from other reputable tuners like Brabus and MKB etc.? Will the 620hp conversion from MKB make an E55 as quick as yours?

The second and last videos really are something, that car is QUICK!

nice times stephens!

I have a question.. in the video 2, there is some older yellow car that you ran with and surprisingly it kept up with you all the way! Do you know what kind of car that was and what he was running?

stephens,
Nice videos!! Now I understand the 1.3 second reaction time, pro light ain't easy! Nice to see a part of Australia dedicated to fun with horsepower. You have got to have the quickest 4 door sedan down under! Good job and good luck.

It is a Holden VL trubo. basically the old Nissan straight six turbo motor. A friend of mine (who does my Dyno work) Mark from JPC has one of these babies doing 8's. 8 second VL Turbo

Thanks Bilal. The car is not running right at the moment and should have been able to pull an 11. If you look at the 60' and 660' times and speeds, the first half of the run indicates a solid 11, for some reason (hopefully the faulty TPS) the car is dying on the second half of the track.
The Brabus K8 engine doesn't come anywhere near this and costs around 20K USD. The MKB, I have no idea, but it would match this at best and costs ????
I know many of you feel more comfortable paying over the odds, for a known name tuner, but I have always done things my own way. If you want MKB/Brabus, have the money to spare and are not concerned about "bang for your buck". go for it and be happy with your decision.

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.
Lots of practice should fix the problem with reaction times.
Don't think you're off the hook yet. I hope to have the top end power problem fixed before next Friday, then 11's and your crown will be mine.

Not sure what the source is but the ECU flags a faulty TPS when plugged into Star diagnostics.

I can't comment on that except that I discovered the intake restriction mid last year. In testing on the dyno it was found to be worth around 5kw (7hp) at the wheels.
original tests for air tube.
Pictures of modification

My times were with temperatures of around 80 degrees and would expect a further improvement in cooler conditions.
I would be interested to see the time slips and conditions of the 12.08 sec run posted as this was one of my first modifications.

The same guy, dwtboss is now claiming an 11.98. This was supposdly based on a temperature of 45 degrees, so if his previous times at 65 degrees are legit, this ought to be possible, but he cannot post a timeslip, or any other evidence of his performance. Given the ease with which I could run an 11.7, by just posting it, I take no notice of such unsubstantiated performance claims.
Edit: I have just requested that he either takes a digital pic of the slip, or faxes it to me for scanning. I want to know one way or another if this time is for real, I believe it is possible, given the conditions.

I hear you Stephens. A time slip would be much welcomed to confirm these times, which are quite impressive to say the least. I agee with you if the conditions are right (gotta love the cold air, although makes it a liitle more difficult for the tires to hook up) low 12's are very possible for a stock e55. I have to believe that with your mods (car running perfectly) and with the right conditions you will be in the 11's. The times you posted were very impresssive, epecially the 60' time. The launch is most of the battle.

Keep us posted.
