I'm also late to the party. Recently bought a CLS 55 AMG that was converted to a twin turbo. My guess that for the past year or so, it has not been well taken care of. The car never had air filters, only wire mesh over the turbos. Once it's delivered I can run a leakdown test.
Hoping not to get bashed here but....how did the Carillo rods work out? Pauter makes rods for $2k. Any part numbers for ARP? I see Darton sleeves are about $1600 and I can drive the block to Oceanside. Then there is the question of pistons and CR. Yeay fun! Honestly, this car was fast enough on pump gas (10.9 at 128 apparently). A few more hp tweaks to compensate for a 91 tune is fine for me.

Yes this is Binh's Powerhaus twin turbo CLS. I've just been informed that I am the third owner of the car. For sure I will keep the forum updated on the CLS since it is unique and people are familiar with it.
Whoever tried to buy it off eBay back out of the deal because it didn't have catalytic converters. They would probably bought the car and drove it into the ground (no mechanical skills). Updates are going to start off slow because I'm in Afghanistan until early next year (need the $$$).
Feel free to PM recommendations. The Darton sleeves are on Amazon for $1600 but I prefer to build a bottom end once and not worry about it. Just need to figure out the right combination of parts, have the place in Oceanside re-sleeve and a good shop to do headwork.

Oceanside? What place if you could let me know. Darton is in Carlsbad, which unless you have been there can be confused with Oceanside.

That's a good deal on amazon! If you want a built motor/trans I'd sell mine for the right price. Darton sleeves, carrillo rods, Weistec pistons, ported heads, arp head studs. Only a few hundred miles on it

What pistons & rods are you using? Are you changing the compression ratio? with my turbo setup, I don't want to raise the compression ratio.
Looks great BTW. Must be nice knowing you will have a solid bottom end.

Wow, I just read this entire thread.
Needless to say, is it because you all drive amg's you bash and banter one another?
or are all of you some F boys with egos bigger then your pencil down there?
Never in my life have I read something on a forum where as a collective group people have so much hate hahaha.
Everyones loosing sleep over these kompressor engines.... When the bi-turbos are about to blow the doors off......

I know there are and will be faster cars out there (even after this current mod). Spending for this current mod project does not make economic or investment sense. But, I wanted to keep my wagon longer. I am a family man with 3 kiddies (and improving golf game) and the wagon has great sentimental meaning to me. That is why I finally decided to not sell it but to mod it some more. I told Shardul that he could post pics of my build, so that others can see the progress and what is involved and in case there is another crazy AMG family man deciding to sell or keep modding.
As for this current project, I want to make sure I get to 17psi. After the ported heads and removal of restrictions in the exhaust, my max boost was at 11psi. After I get the car back, I will be heading to Weistec for a follow up dyno tune and possibly the 56mm pulley so that I can get to 17psi.

Yeh, this forum can get interesting at times. I myself have contributed to the craziness. But, there is a lot of experience on this forum for the AMG platform. As time goes on, more and more of this experience is shared or leaked in the posts/threads. It is from the experience of others on this forum that I learned about Weistec, Darton sleeve and etc. I am hopeful - despite the sometimes personality clashes - that more and more of AMG knowledge and experience is shared.

Just goes to show you how something as simple as talking about building motors can turn into a complete verbal catastrophe!!!

Any shop willing to have white floors and then manage to keep them that clean is probably a damn good shop.
Good luck, man! What's the estimated time to being back on the road?

My favorite quote that I have heard from several different managers about in ground hoists vs two posts is that the shop looks better when it is empty. Empty!! Can you imagine running a business that is based on having cars in each bay all the time and that is your concern.

I cut out a big U-shaped section of that insulation. Once it started sagging like that, it would never stay up. It was just in the way all the time and looking dumb, so I cut it.
I've contemplated notching out that section of the firewall just to make the bigger Y-pipe easier to install.
