E55 W211 Intercooler Pump Upgrade - Cost to install
I bought a Fabtech (Johnson CM30 as it happens) IC pump and have heard some bad things about how long they last. Has anyone changed their stock unit out? Fabtech seems to promise much better performance, but when I asked for an estimate to replace the stock pump from a local independent shop (TGA), I was floored when they quoted me 8.5 hours!!!! $1,105 to replace this pump?
They also quoted 4.5 hours of labor to replace the crankshaft and idler pulleys, for a mere $585.00.
Have I fallen and bumped my head, or are these reasonable?
Thanks!

There's a DIY on here - go on be adventurous, it aint that hard. This is the sort of car that it pays (saves actually) to learn a bit of DIY plus it will give you some satisfaction knowing you did it yourself.

OK, I now see that the IC pump AND Heat Exchanger install were part of this price...not that clear on the quote. I feel much better and have never had any issues with this shop before. I sure don't have the expertise to make a bracket for the heat exchanger to hang it below the front bumper. Do you guys think the total price for BOTH is reasonable? I may find out how much of the quote was for each and still DIY the IC pump.
Got new wheels and tires last week as well, need to post those pics!

Check out the Houston AMG owners page on Facebook. Plenty of guys who would help out. It takes roughly an hour your first time and 30m the second time. I'd be happy to help this weekend.

I bought the EWP-80. Much better than the Johnson 90. I made a custom made bracket looking like the OEM one just bigger for the bigger pump.
Because I hate soldering and crimping on OEM wiring harnesses I disassembled the OEM Bosch pumps power connector and soldered it onto the power cable of the new EWP-80. Now I have a plug and play solution again for my pump. Nothing better than making adapters.
Attached is a picture of the connector before I soldered it on.

cant go wrong with Bosch 010 pump uses the same connector and flows better if not same as the CM30. Unless you are running a rear or front tank the 010 will do the job well!

Do you have a heat exchanger to install as well? I do believe the Bosch 010 to be a better pump for the price/application. OEM and does a better job than the CM30.
