paid 11k for mine, amazing condition, interior is almost flawless, and it runs strong as new. for what you pay for these things I see Mustangs and camaro's etc of similar years go for the same..

It still is. The early versions 1968-1969 were significantly faster. They were the fastest 4 door sedan in the world until 2003. And yes, it was the E55 that surpassed it after 35 years. Actually during the restoration it was brought up to 6.5 liters with other goodies.

The original W109 6.3 M100 motor was conservatively rated at 300hp. Later that rating turned out to be wheel hp. There was no way that the 6,500lb Grosser 600 Mercedes could accelerate to 60mph in 8 seconds on 300bhp. My 3,700lb W109 will easily reach 60mph in 5 seconds. Albeit, it is actually a 6.5 with about 11:1 compression. Additionally, the M100 motor has an unlimited supply of torque. As I recall, Motor Trend was able to get under 13 second quarter mile times with a 1969 W109. Later cars were definitely detuned. An out-of-the box M5 E39 weighs in at more than 4,000 lbs. If both cars have 400hp theoretically the W109 should be quicker. And don't forget the massive torque of the M100.
The Brabus EV12 was hardly a production car.
