Supercharger pulley failure at full speed
Was on my way back to connecticut from ocean city Maryland, just crossed the Washington bridge and was feeling antsy from sitting in traffic for 40 minutes so I punched it. was going about 90 and heard a good pop thought it was a rock hitting my windshield untill I looked back and the entire highway was filled with smoke. I pulled over and shut the car off and instantly filled the highway with oil this is the end result

Sorry to hear that, this happened to me recently, tore through the water pipe. How old is the pulley and what size was it?
Hope it's not fried and you can get it fixed.

Shut the engine off befor the low oil light could even come on so im hopeing the engine is okay. It hit the oil line that feeds the oil cooler so hard it ripped the bolt out of the block with the threads and chopped that air line in half , did a number on my belt wrap kit and dented the inside of the hood. Got it towed home and I'm going to start looking at it tomorrow, have a new 77mm clutched pulley but no tune so I can't put it on yet in a bit of a bind need the car this week

That is a mess. That is by far the worst damage I've seen and there has been quite a few recently. good luck and speedy recovery to the car and your wallet...

Looks to be the new 77mm clutched.
I don't understand how anybody thinks it's a good idea to install a time bomb on your car, scatter shield or not. Too much proven history of these things going boom that the recommendation is to buy a scattershield ... And a new pulley each time.

It's an 83mm pulley I don't know the name will check and see if I can find more when I take it off. The previous owner gave it to me when I bought the car. I have put about 6-7 k Miles on it showed no signs of problems until earlier that day when stopping at a gas station I noticed it sounded a bit loud like the bearing was going.

And for all the people saying oh should have bought the scatter shield I can post another picture when these things go full bore they are serious , mine chopped part of both the posts that the scatter shield would have been attached to off like they were butter. Do I recommend one yeah and will be buying one befor I put another pulley on for sure but if they go there will still be damage is what I'm saying
Notice both of the posts to the left and right of the pulley how Shiney they are now

You can add me to the list.. Second time for me, first one did not cause any damage as it happened at a Very low speed, basically idle.. Second one just happened 3 weeks ago, ACG was delivering the car to my home after a front strut replacement and it went boom. Almost went thru the hood.. REAL BUMMER. $1,400 FIX.. F*******K..
There seems to be confusion on torque specs and gap from what I understand. I think the vendors need to chime in on this as they put the torque specs different from what MB says.. Vendors?????
Would go a Long way to help regain confidence in this product as well as reputation.. My 02...
