Could use some education on exhaust modification
My attempt to have C63 mufflers installed on my E55 wagon was a failure. My previous (while back) thread on this goes in more details. I still would like to have a bit more rumble/sound from the stock ones. Searched and read many threads on this and contemplating the following:
- X pipes + resonator delete
- X pipes alone
- Resonator delete alone
Trying to avoid droning in the cabin as much as possible. What do you think? Easy modification? And can I have any shop make/use 2.75" or 3" X pipes or is there a particular one recommended? Also saw a few vids of these modifications and sounded pretty good...If anyone has heard it first hand, let me know what you think.
Thanks

If you want more sound with stock e55 mufflers, you need to get rid of the cats.
Or have the stock mufflers cut open to remove the sound dampening fiber that they're packed with.

I installed 6.3L mufflers with stock headers and it was a nice change but wasn't crazy. I went ARH long tubes and de-catted the car and holy moly. It made the car twice as loud. I can make a video if you'd like. It's pretty raw when you step on it and under light throttle/cruising it sounds relatively stock. A lot of people think my car is straight piped

Thanks for the feedback. Not looking for something that will make the wagon too loud. Did not know headers would change the muffler sound. I thought about gutting the mufflers but trying not to mess with OEM parts in case I want to go back to stock.

yes they all will require welding and most of them delete the primary cats (you will need O2 sensors turned off the get rid of the CEL triggered due to having no cats, even with doing this emission monitors will show not ready)

For the last 6 years I have had a set of VRP Jet Hot coated log manifold headers which actually made really good horsepower . Just replaced them with EC's. The VRP's are in perfect condition. I'll let them go for $200 + shipping.

FWIW, the butt dyno says the EC's made an improvement (even with new Magnaflow cats). Also noted a slight reduction in MP which say they are doing what they are supposed to do.

I had basically the same thing Steve and now my top end feels much stronger with the EC mids, I actually modded those as well on the collector side, we will see soon with the trap times
