SC Pulley Gap Hot and Cold

Has anyone else experienced setting the gap of the SC pulley when the SC is cold only to get friction noise when heated up? The gap closes when hotter.

Any advice, the DIY's i've read dont seem to mention this, they set the gap and its done.

Thanks,

B

This place is a joke.
Never had that problem. Mine is set to factory spec. .35-.45mm, no shims required. Check it in 3 different places around the diameter.

Venders say it with get tighter. Keep it between .35 and .55 and check it for the first few weeks.

Thanks, my too large a gap seems to follow a rough sounding (rattle) SC at slow speed and when slowing down, the pulley is new, swapped out for one that exploded, red bearing, Should I swap out for the newer black bearing?

Would an incorrectly gapped SC lead to a noisy SC? New bearing would have done less than 1000 KM. I've listened to the rear internal SC bearings they are not rattling. Going to get it sorted today.

Also waiting for a serpentine belt, hopefully belt, not tensioners, my car sounds like a pile of ****e at the moment, rather embarrassing start up.

Can someone do me a massive favour and measure their SC pulley gap when the engines hot and cold?

I cant have the only expanding and retracting gap when hot and cold.

My garage is replacing the serpentine belt (sounds like ****e on start up) and swapping out the Red Nachi SC Pulley bearing for the newer Nachi Black bearing and will hopefully be able to gap it to spec this time.

Thanks,

Have you checked the supercharger idler and the other main idler pulleys? Sometimes when they're in the twilight of their lifespan they make noise when cold, and sound fine when things get hot and expand.

Thanks yes I ve had all the bearings replaced with Nachi, I think the new belt will work, if not I'll replace the tensioner.

Is there a right a wrong way to remove a stuck SC pulley, for example don't hit it with a rubber mallet, do use a puller etc..etc? Assume stuck pulley is due to too much loctite or can the magnetic function ever lock on is it electrical or mechanically magnet?

Well good luck with it. As long as you have adequate gap where things are not dragging each other when disengaged, there should be no noise associated with the pulley itself. Just to check, add another shim in there temporarily to increase the gap even if it's then out of spec. If the noise persists then you know to keep looking elsewhere. If not, maybe your method of measuring was not the same method as others ..

Not sure if you ever sorted this. But I've noticed the same exact thing on mine. My gap is about 0.030mm hot and nearly 0.080mm cold. I too am wondering if this is normal.

I just installed a new EC pulley with the black bearing last weekend. I had to use all 4 of my factory shims.
