about the vomit

sorry hopefully not to offensive of a title.. and I meant "about to vomit"
but...

Should I be worried about brass looking shavings in my oil pan, I didn't see them in the filter nor in the drained oil, just when I pulled the pan.. car runs fine no smoke no excessive oil consumption.

have had 2 shots of tequila ... so far. ok now its 4..

If everything has been fine, why did you pull the pan?

thanks for responding the pan had a crack in it. the previous oil change place had over tightened the drain plug.

also the car even with the cracks never leaked oil as far as I could tell.. on to my 5th shot now! And was not low on oil either. Now I have no clue as to what the previous owner had done..

ok confirmed oil was disposed of.. I'm going to run it for a week then pull the oil out from the top and check it. Then run it another week then pull the oil out from the drain plug. My feeling is if you pull the oil out from the top you won't pick up this material and would never know that you have a problem, sound reasonable?

First off, if its actually brass, its not a rod or main bearing. Secondly, no. If you pulled some oil from the top, and you could find contaminants, the motor would surely be ****ed and sounding funny. Could be shavings from maybe the oil pump or the likes from a different bearing? Rod bearings are steel and copper.

Appreciate the response, if pulling the pan wasn't such a pain I'd pull both lower and upper of to inspect things. From what I understand the dealers techs pull the oil from the top, if that's correct they'll never see these shavings (btw I was guessing brass). I didn't even see the shavings when I drained from the plug.. so the particles must be to heavy to suspend within the oil. I was in a hurry when doing this work so I pulled the old pan off didn't bother to look at it at all just grabbed the new pan and moved on then several hours later I notice the shavings.. Not sure really what to do next, don't have the time to wait for a shop to inspect motor at this point, so just going to gamble at this point, I would never had known about the shavings if I hadn't had a crack in the pan so I'm going to act like I never saw them . like I said I appreciate the response.

I used to get aluminum flakes from oil pump chain slapping the timing cover.

Thanks starvingartist, and you can't be too starved if you own a 55. I wish I had taken a better look but I was so upset I threw the pan an everything across the garage (yes sorry pretty immature) might pay for that.. Like I said I'm going to pretend I didn't see it. Looking for a good rebuild or pull.. I'm not giving up on the car, it might not be the fastest but its the coolest..
