drag tire test on street no limp mode.

so recap for what ever reason 255 50 16 m/t drag radials caused my car to go into limp mode even had a 1 and 4th gear slip code. today I tried my hoosier 26x9x16 tires bolted them on swayed all over the place up the road no limp mode. I actually layed on the converter to 3000rpms never did that but then I rolled into tires spun obviously on the street but it was not like they boiled it actually shifted pretty good it didn't cut out. I think at the track I was not building it up enough and I was getting too much flash and then it would shocked the tires causing a bad tire spin and causing the 1-2 shift to be really lousy. I did try launching in manual and then pressed the button for sport mode right after and that seem to shift pretty good but you have to do it right away or it will hang up.

Yours is an 06 right? They can be finicky when running a taller tire.

I make sure I found tires that were very close in height.

I just got the new tires on the wheels, but I'm not worried. For the E55, they're stock wheels with 275/35-18 instead of 265/25-18.

I've run them on my SL65, replacing 295/30-19. Same basic size in diameter. Runs great.

I'm glad you resolved your issues somewhat by swapping the tires. I think matching stock height front (25.7") to stock height rear(25.3") is more important that both the same since from the factory the rears are slightly shorter. Weird thing is both drags you mentioned are both the same height of 26" on paper, yet one is a problem.. Have you put them next to each other with a straight edge across the top to see if there is any real difference? Maybe the slight difference is what is causing your problem since the car is expecting taller tires up front. Either way, get them hot, launch hard and hopefully they stick!!!! Good luck.

race horse, when I had hooiser drag radials 255 60 16 they would fit in the spare tire area in trunk no problem and my qtp's drop right in the mickey was a tight fit so I thought hmm how tall are these. funny thing is the hoosier quick time pro will grow as you go down the track. but either way no limp mode. I think with good track prep I can get a good run now and yes I was not building the stall up enough causing too much flash blowing the tires off and making that 1-2 shift do something crazy. It spins on the street with drag tires but I can get through first gear and have the 2nd gear shift not do anything weird. It just sways like crazy but I guess its better then limp mode

Just wanted to contribute, I have found that 17x8.5 clk55 rims work for both my cls55 and e55 utilizing 275/40/17 Nittos. No errors, cruise works, etc
