I was getting ready to get rid of my car.. with this it's going to be nearly impossible. So I'm curious if it's possible for it to be totaled..

The door and the panel are the big ones, I have a feeling it's going to quickly add up.

Yeah no, I want this fixed to factory with new OE parts. Which is why I think it'll be easier for my insurance to total it out. There will be no junkyard parts or bondo..

def get oem parts. When i got rear ended, the lady's adjuster that hit me originally wanted to know if an e500 bumper was ok? hell no. had to order an amg bumper from germany since none were in North America.

Maybe take the check from insurance, and consider selling it damaged?
Someone might take it and fix it, or part it out??

I know I'd like like an oem e63 front bumper.

I would advise to run the value on kbb to get an idea of how much the car costs. Multiply that by .75 and that's what the insurance most likely will threshold your car at. Depending on which insurance you are going through as well. For example: Farmers doesn't total their cars until the threshold on the estimates hits 100%, AAA totals cars at 80%. Looks like the door is repairable, quarter panel has to be replaced and possibly the rear bumper as well. If he hit your wheel, you MIGHT have possible suspension damage.

(I do this everyday at work, I'm an estimator and work with all insurances) let me know if you have any questions.

If there's frame damage or rear axle is out of alignment, there's a better chance of it being totalled. But if there isn't and with your mileage is low, then most likely it won't be. It also depends on your insurance carrier.

Thanks for the info, he did in fact hit my wheel.. I have not looked at the car in the daylight to check for additional damage. I called on the cost of a new quarter panel and door panel.. the quarter is $1200 and the door panel is $900.. not including shipping from Germany. Just those two will be around $3k shipped. No idea about the bumper. Adding in labor and paint, this will be a costly repair..

You said you do this for a living so you know there will be aditional repairs, I'm only tallying surface damage.

I want it totaled, so yes I'm looking for any reason to up the repair cost.

I'm insured with Geico.. do you have any experience with them?

Geico will most likely try and find a used parts for you car. Used quarter panel, used or am bumper and the door looks repairable. The only way they will go OEM is if they can't find parts, The insurance will always try to repair cars the most cost-effective way. The only way I can see your car totaling is if you have a lot of suspension damage making then replace the complete unit. It really depends on how many miles you have on the car and what it's worth.

Don't mean to talk bad about your insurance but from pervious experiences they suck. Ever since I learned about insurance companies and the real way they repair cars I switched to AAA. One of the best out there imo.

Hope this helps.

Well that's BS, I didn't know they could hit up junk yards to repair cars... if that's really what they try to do I'll take the check and repair it through my own shop.

My car is worth $17k (KBB).. I read that here in WA and other states they use what's called total loss formula (TLF) instead of setting a specific percentage to consider a total loss. The TFL is the cost of repairs plus scrap value must equal the pre-accident value of the car.

Any truth to this? Or is it just wiki type bs..

Well they have certified vendors but still used is used. Luckily there's not too many vendors that carry AMG parts and the insurance has to go with OEM. The only bad thing about cashing out is that you get money for only visual damage. You're taking a risk on the suspension. You might or might not have any damage but you never know until you do an alignment.

IF the car is a total loss...

The insurance will take the kbb value and they typically have a formula on how to come up with a figure. They look at the cars conditions (engine, tires, interior, sepaage or oil spilled in the engine bay, body, etc) and they add up the numbers to offer you a settlement. You don't necessarily have to take it, you can ask them to over look the car again. Typically it's kbb value multiplied by 0.75 and you get the cars threshold. If the repairs exceed the threshold then it would considered a TL. In your case you say your car is worth 17k on kbb. (17,000 x .75= 12,750)
