What car should I buy?

I am a 22 year old college student and searching for a car around 20k. I live in Massachusetts where it snows. What car should I buy out of these 3.

None of the above. The cars are cheap-ish, but the maintenance is not.

i would personally not buy anything from that dealer they have Garbage cars, I was looking at that CLS55 in June which they still have there they wanted $33k then and now dropped the price by $5k that car is not worth even $15k its so beat up, I also glanced at some other cars they had and most of them (70%) were toast

If you had to pick one of the three what would you pick though? The 2003 e55 is the cheapest, has less miles, and is the fastest of the 3. It won't be that expensive to maintain I drive like 5k miles a year.

^this. Aside from that, if I were a college student w/ no full time employment, I'd be looking for a reliable car first and foremost. And I'd never drive a Porsche with an automatic transmission...

If you're a full time 22 year old college student without a full-time job, then none of these cars are for you. HeissRod is giving you very good advice. Don't be fooled by their current price tags. These are all high performance luxury vehicles and their regular maintenance costs and parts will be reflective of the vehicles' original price tags. It is likely that all three vehicles have been ridden hard, as that is what they were built and purchased for originally. No one buys a Porsche or an AMG to just drive around town. That means they should all be coming up to the point where some serious out of pocket maintenance will have to be done. Especially if they were not well maintained by their previous owners.

Until you graduate and get a full-time job, stick to what Mightar suggested. A nice, reliable, low mileage car that won't sticker shock you when you take it in for maintenance.

If you only drive 5k a year get a cheap car. When your out of school and start working get what u want. save your money. But if you have to buy one I would pick #1. Rare color nice car. Maintenance would have to be documented and I wouldn't pay over 17k. If they won't do it, walk out. They will call back. IMO it's a bad time for you to spend 20k on a car. I'm 47 and have never spent that much on a car and never will. I like having money.

Unfortunately, only driving 5k miles a year doesn't mean anything to these cars. You could drive it 20k miles and you might have better luck than someone who does 2k miles.

As has been mentioned a few times already, while a car may have depreciated in value the cost of repairs haven't. The car doesn't 'know' it is only worth 10k. It still thinks it is a 100k supercar and it doesn't care that you don't want to put 3k worth of brakes on it!

Buy something reliable. You don't need added stress of high repair costs of a luxury car while you are in school. GL!

Toyota Corolla, Kia Forte, VW Jetta, Warranty Coverage.

Save up a lot of cash in the bank while your 2015 or 2016 is under warranty and has the latest and greatest. When you are financially comfortable with a $5,000 first year cost of ownership to get the car up to date with all other associated bills (insurance, 8MPG, maintenance, breakdowns, speeding tickets, etc) go for a 12 year old performance sedan a CEO bought new for $97,000 and used it to get to and from work on a cold engine at full throttle because he could and it was throw away money.

I'm going to play Devils advocate here... Buy one while you're young and can make financial mistakes
If you have to have one go pick up one of those 50cc scooters everyone rides around campus so you can get around when the car goes down and you're saving up to pay for the repairs.

Honestly though I didn't graduate too long ago and this car would have ruined me if I owned it while I was in school.

Buy either 1 or 3 because 2 is TERRIBLE, it's trash, worse than trash. Automatic 911 Carrera? DISGUSTING if not a PDK. Also very slow.

Don't listen to haters telling you not to buy these. Have fun, you're young, you should be driving these kind of cars. These are NOT old people cars, old people buy these because they want to feel young again but fail to. I've driven amazing cars since I was in high school and it's a thrill and a great time. Get it out of your system now because you're gonna have REAL responsibilities when you get a little older.

Good advice from the guy above, get the car you want then get the cheapest, most reliable POS you can find that, in an emergency, will get you from A-B if God forbid the E55, or whatever it is, is down.
