Takata exploding airbags hits us
This might be a dupe, but I didn't see it.

Our cars have been recalled (along with 800K other Mercedes).
Guess I'll be parking it until it is fixed. These things kill people.
I just called Mercedes. They have a recording just for this, which basically says "We haven't decided we're going to keep you from dying. We'll let you know".
Sound familiar?

I think they're blowing smoke. My dealer (and Mercedes itself) say that they have not released any information on what cars are covered.

Looks like the W211 is not affected? The only E-Class they list is 2010+

I have been in an accident where my driver's airbag deployed and honestly it probably protected me from injury. Hard to tell because the crash was not very fast. Typical chain collision where everyone was braking except the guy behind me. Hit me, pushed me into the car in front of me, she hit the car in front of her, and one more. It was a very interesting sensation because once hit from behind, it was impossible to keep my foot on the brake because it feels like you are being slammed backwards into your seat.
That said, I have always been suspicious of airbags in general because they are tiny bombs waiting to go off. An electric spark ignites sodium nitrate and that releases an insane amount of nitrogen in milliseconds to inflate the bag. Rescue workers have been injured when reaching into cars to help injured people, and the bags go off way too late. All parts of a car will fail at some point, but airbag failure has no symptoms to let you know it's coming. What if all airbags start exploding after 30 years? Is that the manufacturer's responsibility?

Don't forget, there's several airbags in the car. I think mine has 8, not sure how many the older ones have. It's interesting that it only affects the 2010-2011 models. Newer isn't always better.

Just like the fuel tank recall, this will take a while to get the information to dealers and get the service advisors informed. Just because MB was just announced to be included in the recall doesn't mean the dealers are automatically set up to deal with it overnight.
