Hi, i dont know if you guys were aware of that, but the later Blowers on the 55K engines, which end with "580" in the Partnumber, are producing more boost. According to my source and people that actually tried it, the internal gears of the .580 blowers are different.
So putting a different Pulley on cars with the .580 will produce more boost than putting them on a .280 blower. So all the boost tables that float around here are obsolete. I would love to know if its just the gearing in the blower or if there even more in difference.
Part-Numbers im currently aware of..:
- A 113 080 0280 "Early" style Blower.
- A 113 090 0280 "Early" style Blower.
- A 113 090 0080 "Early" blower which produces more boost (4.65% faster)
- A 113 090 0580 " The later style" Blower which produces more boost. (4.65% faster)
On my CL55 AMG, the .580 blower came somewhere in 2003 according to EPC and nowadays Mercedes only sells the .580 blowers, because they superseeded the early ones. Sadly i only have the .280 blower in my car:

that is not correct.
0080 and 0580 blowers are 4.65% faster then a 0280 blower, the transmission inside is different.

So people you need to take this 4.65% gearing difference into consideration when chosing pulley sizes.
Since i have an early .280 blower i will go with 74mm SC Pulley but i would not chose this size with a .580 blower for sure! My Blower currently stock makes peak 0.68bar (9.87 PSI), sometimes 0.70bar (10.2 PSI) for a split second but only after beltwrap Kit, before the beltwrap kit, it was 0.1bar less boost so around 8.7PSI! I assume the .580 and .080 will do around 0.8 bar (11.6 PSI) stock?
I wonder which Models do really produce 500HP stock (DIN at crank) and which ones don't.
Any Infos about the gearing of the infamous "Presse Lader" ? :-)

What an amazing discovery! Boohoo my '04 (Build date 11/03) is a 0280.
This does explain, possibly, why the 05-06 E55's run stronger. I wonder if the tuners know about this, could explain why the canned tunes are sometimes way lean/rich, unless the tune has a set value for each increment in boost anyways.

Just to get this straight, I opened up the transmissions of all 3 blowers and counted the teeth on the gearwheels. Input shaft on 0080/0580 has 46 tooth translated to a wheel with 34 tooth. 0280 had 45 vs. 35 teeth on the gearwheels. This results in 4.65%.
Also I saw a 0080 blower with a changed number to 0580 on a Väth E58K W211, this number was manually changed AND all the R230 SL55 Evo with 517HP always used the 0080 blower!
0280 is definitely the "worst" blower for tuned cars ... for stock cars it will generate enough pressure to gain 476 or 500hp but if you like to tune your car it is a good thing to change the blower.
but ... dont worry, i also had 600HP and 920Nm (EWG, not DIN!) with the 0280 blower it isnt so bad as you may think.
I use a 172mm crank pulley and a -4mm SC Pulley on my beast and had 0.99 bar pressure with the 0280 blower and 1.09bar with the 0580 ... just changed the blower.

I also think the tuners might not know this in the US and therefore, if i get for instance a 180mm crank tune that was originally done for someone with a .080 or .580 blower, it might run richer on my car with .280 blower? Dunno how the maps look in detail but i think this could be possible
For sure i'll go with larger injectors. :-)

Fabian, compared to the ~1.6psi difference with your pulley setup, do you have a rough estimate on what the differece would be with the stock pulley sizes (154/90 combo) ?

Even with a 180 pulley 4% will chime in at 7-11 hp. Stock it probably will be nothing. Ecu dumps boost at a set level. There are member that ran pulleys and went back to stock with a tune and have logged 13+ on stock pulley. It's not worth upgrading unless one falls in your lap

as i said, it only makes sense if you have a strong tune one your car and NOT ONLY upgraded your pulley.
My .280 blower had 600hp and 920nm with several other tunes, with the .580 blower i have 623hp and 927nm but also changed a few other things.
for stock cars, or cars up to 550hp, i would say it doesent matter ... but if you want to get the final little kick in your car ... you´ll should search for a .580 blower IF you have a .280 blower.
No need to get in panic
