I guess you just pull the old one out and put in a new one - right?

I have one and it works. Have to pull on it to release. I think it was changed in 05-06when the box lid was updated

believe so...

Toadster: look for a tab type on your new one that you can press, i think there was a tab to help it release from its hole. but look the new one over and see if you see anything that you can "press" before you go and yank the old one out. i had my whole center console out when i did my cupholder but you should not have to remove the whole center out just to replace that part. i had a lot of other stuff to do at the time. take your time man, but its cool to have it working properly!! take care.

i think the previous owner did that, the wood cover is cracked in a way that someone may have put an oversized cup in there

It is odd looking but works well. Even for 44oz fountain drinks. The First time I pressed the button I was like WTF.

super easy replacement - you guys with the roll-a-desk cupholders are missing out on a piece of engineering...

I'm severely depressed that I have a cupholder that never breaks.

Mercedes
I had the 'Optimus Prime' cup holder in my 2004, but I upgraded by installing junkyard 2006 console.

The roller blind console is better at everything except holding drinks (can't beat transformer cup holder).
